Screen = Gorilla Glass, yes or no?

So, anyone find out if our screen is made of Gorilla glass or not? Proof? I'm waiting on this evidence before I get a Zagg Screen Protector.

I went to a Best Buy nearby for the hell of it and almost fainted at the rip-off prices they have for Zagg. We're talking in the $30s! I didn't specifically look for one for the Droid 3, but just a general observation when I went to their phone accessories area.

I think it does. Gorilla Glass is good on it's own for preventing most scratches, but it still doesn't do a whole lot for the build up of various things on the screen. Beyond basic finger/face oils, if you've ever let a female friend/relative use your phone (and some guys too), all kinds of makeup and hair products can get on there, and some of that can be stubborn to remove, especially if the screen isn't wiped down right after use. A good screen protector helps to protect the screen from building up any of that stuff. And as good as Gorilla Glass is at preventing scratches, when you get into trying to remove some solidified junk on the screen, it's still possible to do some damage.

get an ''anti glare'' screen protector. while they may digitize the screen VERY SLIGHTLY, i find that they do an excellent job of resisting fingerprints, and ive my fingers a better slide feeling over the screen. Plus its easier to see your screen when any light hits it

I bought cheap screen protectors for my D1 and all I can say is, you get what you pay for. I bought the boxwave screen and it was fantastic! I was able to take it off, run it under hot water, dry it and put it back on. Boxwave doesn't have them for the D3 yet.

I suppose. I got a cheap screen protector for my old phone (LG enV Touch) and it worked well for the 2 years I used that phone, not that I abused the phone, but mainly to protector the screens (that phone has 2 screens) from finger oil/smudge/etc.

I guess the Zagg screen protectors aren't worth it? They're so damn expensive.

Agreed. You get what you pay for. I used to use really cheap ones, but I had to replace them every month or so. Now I go with some that typically run around $10-$15 for a pair of them, and I never have to use the second one (unless I royally mess up on applying the first). Cheap ones also cause you to lose more touch sensitivity on the screen than the better quality ones.

My skinomi screen protector is in the mail. "Self healing" scratch resistant surface and when applied right you can't see it. $12.

I filled out the Boxwave product request for screen protectors for the Droid 3. The autoresponder says that they make new stuff based on the number of requests so if you want one fill out the form.

When I got my phone yesterday at an independent Verizon retailer, they strongly recommended a Gadget Gear screen protector. One of the guys let me play with his Thunderbolt, which had a Gadget Gear protector, so I could test the screen sensitivity.

It seemed good, in the 2 minutes or so that I played with it. There was little or no glare. The touch response seemed quick and accurate. They told me "it's self-healing" meaning scratches go away over time. (I'm only reporting what they told me on that one; I'm not claiming it's true or not true. But I will say his appeared scratch free and smooth.)

They said it would cost about $30, but they didn't yet have any in stock for the Droid 3.

Anyone have any experience with Gadget Gear screen protectors?

Screen protectors... I haven't needed one on my other gorilla glass screen... so I think its just a waste of money.

IF its not gorilla glass, then I go with Zagg InvisibShield, I've been using them for over 5 years on all my gadgets (pda's, laptops, phones) and they almost never come off, and Ive never had one get scratched (just one had some wierd smudge on my iRiver Clix, but it wasn't technically a scratch). Plus they give you free replacements IF you break your gadget and you have to get a new one, they dont ask questions, you just pay for shipping on the item and you have a replacement screen. You do have to ship them the old film.

the product speaks for itself. i'm a loyalist until I get burned.

Gorilla glass really isnt as special as people make it out to be. I already dropped my d3 face down and i got a bunch of little scratches and marks on my screen. That was only dropping it from waist height. I dont have any screen protector on my phone.

Your screen didn't break, did it? My D1 went through war for 1.5 years and never broke or got any serious scars, a heavy glass framed picture fell directly on the screen and nothing happened...I think the stuff is great.

It may resist breakage well above what you would get out of glass, but it isn't scratch-proof by any means. I've already got little nicks on my screen and I treat it like it's made out of glass. Oh wait...it is made out of glass.

I get them from ebay, they are only about $3 for 5 of them or so. I don't have any problems with them on my droid x. There are definitely some better and worse ones on ebay so you have to find the right seller I guess.

its a bit silly to not protect your $500 investment by getting a screen protector that costs anywhere from $10 to $30. just because its gorilla glass doesnt mean its 100% supder duper and will -never- under -any- circumstances scratch on you. i hope everyone here atleast puts one on. i'd feel bad if anyone got theirs dinged up.

I've not gotten one for my D3 yet. I'm waiting for the Boxwave. I had that for the 1 and thought it felt as good or better than the touch of the bare glass. So far they haven't produced them.

When I get my D3 I plan on bringing the unopened box straight to the mall and to the Zagg kiosk and having them install a full body invisibleSHEILD right when it gets unboxed. I noticed the chrome on the body and would hate for it to get scratched.

I have put full body invisibleSHEILDs on my OG Droid and my Macbook Pro and couldn't be more satisfied. They are absolutely worth the money because they have a lifetime warranty. If you get it installed in person you can bring the phone back anytime it begins to peel and they will replace the shield.

I'm assuming you don't have much experience with invisibleSHEILDS? or maybe you do idk. But should there be something wrong with it, I can just peel it off and get a new one. As long as you have the shield, then the warranty will be good. It doesnt matter if it's still on the phone or not.
