Just Received My Photon 4G!!!!

Bought this phone off of the marketplace here on android forums. from what i can tell so far is that its a really nice phone. feels nice in the hand, battery cover is nice and grippy. fiddled with the home screens a little bit, pretty snappy. havent really been able to get into the phone yet so i will update later with my thoughts. but i can honestly say that the Evo 3D will have its hands full with this phone. its a BEAST!

If you could, would you mind doing size comparison pics with the EVO 4G? That was the last thing that I really wanted to see. Overall, I love how that looks even more with these pics compared to the other ones online.

And even BETTER, I just realized you posted the specs on the memory.

2.83 GB for apps storage?...Sounds perfect to me, and still more than the EVO 3D (and more than reported)
8.91 GB internal storage?...Okay, that's still a good amount
I wonder where the other 4.26 GB is? All bloatware?

No worries. Anytime, if you have a chance. Just want to have an idea of how comfortable a transition it'll be from the EVO, since the stats say it's a taller phone.

All together there are 50 apps total installed from Motorola. I would guess that a lotod the space is taken up by a little bloat and the whole sprint ID pack.

Woah...LOL...at least they compensated for the bloatware by providing SO much internal storage space. Man, that's exactly what I was hoping for on the EVO, prior to the official specs being announced.

Once you activate, be sure to check if it'll allow removal of some bloatware like the EVO 3D allowed. Not sure if that capability would even be functional, since it's a demo, but worth checking out.

I'm going to be a Grumpy McGrumperson and wonder aloud: assuming I'm looking at those pictures accurately, why would they put the charging port: (1) on the side; and (2) on the side that lays on the ground when you have it propped up on the kickstand?

I'm going to assume I'm wrong about the actual side it's on (because if that's the case it blows my mind how illogical it is) and just bitch and moan about the fact that when I have my Evo propped up it's usually charging. Also, I have my Evo propped on the side when I drive (typically charging).

Everything else looks sick.

Yeah the charging port and hdmi are on the bottom when the kick stand is out. I'm guessing this is because when you pop out the kick stand it prompts you for webtop mode or dock mode. It also auto rotates the desktop and some apps like YouTube when the kick stand is out.

Thunderbolt was the exact same way, dumb but they have their reasons.

Can you check if you can stand the phone up vertically with the kickstand out? One of the pics online showed it doing that, but wasn't sure if that was actually functional that way or if it was just how the picture was taken.

Yeah ill check that out for you. I'm gonna take a few more pics too. Hopefully I video tomorrow afternoon.

Nice! There's another plus for the Photon 4G. Now, if you can stand it up vertically, is there a setting to turn off that intuitive feature that puts the phone in landscape? If so, then the Photon is definitely the perfect upgrade from the current EVO, IMO.

Also, I just have to say, BYE NASCAR APP!....roflmao. I've had that stupid add-on app from my Mogul, to my Touch Pro, to my EVO...NASCAR will be the absolute 1st app to be removed.

I am so jealous. That was an awesome find in the market place. I wish I would of jumped on it but I was so mistrusting of that guy and didnt believe it.

How much were you able to delete and how much of an affect did it have on the memory available?

And I have a few more questions I know myself and a few others are wanting to know, how are the pictures it takes? Are they better or equal to the 4Gs? Are you able to really play around with settings? And how good is the speaker phone compared to the EVO?

As for all 3 I can say that the screen gets super bright but is clear and crisp. On par and maybe a little better buy they are different todd of screens. I took like 3 pics with the camera and they looked great. The options on the camera are nice too like panoramic cam. And the speaker and sound are so much louder than the 3D. Oh and by the way, I just made this post using the Photon through the Phandroid app! Its activated and working awesomely!

You can disable the auto rotation with kick stand out in the display options

Yeah a guy that lived in kansas was selling out on here. I posted and said I wanted it. Have him the benefit of the doubt and it paid off. And I activated it on the sprint website. I took pics of that process too. Tomorrow afternoon I will have a nice review.

Yeah right at the bottom by the sprint logo there is a very little bit of leakage. But since I have like a motorola sprint test unit it probably won't be like that on the release phones. The screen itself is nice. Around the edges where the glass meets the frame the glass slants down to meet the frame. Hard to describe but when you see it you will know. Its nice. Screen is smooth as silk.

Awesome pics and mini review. It looks smaller in height compared to the other two phones. I assume the right one is the EVO. (whats the one in the middle? the EVO 3D?)

I like that the sd card is not behind the battery like in the EVO.

as for the charging port on the side that it lays done on the ground, I would think it may also be for the keyboard/laptop dock if they ever make one like the Atrix.

Man I want this phone (not yours, I mean the phone in general lol)

Really? I honestly must be either more color blind than I already knew I was or people have an acute sight for the pentile deficiencies. I seriously don't see what you're referring to at all. I had more problem with the evo 3d display making me dizzy than the colors or lack thereof that you're referring to.

It was. Most are fine. No bleeding on mine. There are a lot of bad evo 3d units out there.
My of evo had it real bad.

Yeah, I was one of the lucky few who didn't have it when I finally switched to the white evo. I only had one of my replacement phones that had bad light leakage.
