Help In need of serious help!!! :(

My brother got a new LG optimus M today from metro pcs... I have the Ascend from metro, and he liked that I rooted my phone and stuff and asked me to root his as well... Was having a little bit of trouble at first since the LG doesn't have a file manager already on the phone like the ascend does... So I downloaded it from the app store no problem, then I used gingerbreak to root the phone and then installed titanium back up and deleted the metro apps that weren't needed... then I went to download apps for him in the app store and process.android thing keep popping up and said force close... I got frustrated and just rest the phone (thinking it would put everything back from how he got it), and now I can't download anything at all from the app store(keep getting the same force close message), don't have a web browser and have no way to put the file manager or anything on there to try and at least unroot the phone, I don't know what I did!!! I saw a few threads on here with people who had the same problem but I don't understand what to do, I really need help step by step. PLEASE!? :(

Okay. It can easily be fixed. What you definitely don't want to do is delete the browser. Its hooked into everything that has to do with internet. No matter what you download from the market. Now here's what you do: Go to androidforums.com/optimus-m-all-things-root/349438-guide-how-flash-recovery-setup-androidsdk.html and get the custom recovery. Use the second way because you're going to need the platform tools. Then go to www.mediafire.com/?mc4t2t9xuvhti and get the browser.apk file (browser.odex if you deleted it to). Lastly go to androidforums.com/optimus-m-all-things-root/301358-anyone-who-has-rooted-deleted-lghome-apk.html and push it/them right into your phone. You can do this with all other system apps so its all good. Let me know if this works AND HEY, don't be stingy with that thanks button=P

Exactly what they said, but you can side load a new browser app. Try it might work.

No, because he still doesn't have the default Android browser -- browser.apk. THAT has to stay on the phone. In this LG Optimus M, it's considered part of the operating system. Even if you really use a different browser for everything.

When that happened to me, due to bad advice that Metroweb wasn't really the Android browser (it is), I had to restore my phone back to factory condition (which reinstalled all files) and then re-root and do everything again I had already done. Andyo70's posts helped me tremendously.

Back then we Optimus M owners didn't know how to force re-install of just the broswer.apk file. Even though I put it where it was supposed to go and I "installled" it, the phone still acted like it wasn't there. It was not accepted as a system file.

So, I restored to factory condition and that worked. Now there is a way to force installation.

But that browser HAS to go back on for the phone to work correctly. Just loading another browser does not solve the problem.

People have different ideas of easy. This is not much of a challenge for many of the regulars here, but it sounds like the OP wants something even easier. I do not think that is possible.

Yeahh. That's why I don't like rooting with gingerbreak because you don't get a recovery or SDK tools which you NEED when things like this happen. I deleted my home screen, messaging AND the browser but I was able to fix it through a recovery that I didn't even know I put on there when I rooted it lol.

Good point. I didn't take into account that he was new so that's true but unless he wants to do a hard reset (which might not work) and lose everything and root again and then get the sdk and recovery for future purposes this I believe is the only way to do it.

Thanks so much guys, I still haven't figured it out was up till 5 in the morning trying to do it... I was following "androidforums.com/optimus-m-all-things-root/301358-anyone-who-has-rooted-deleted-lghome-apk.html" last night in the forums and got that ADB thing on my computer (downloaded that 2 things I was suppose to) but after that I couldn't figure out how to "push" the browser.apk back on to the phone, or how to hook the phone up to the ADB... where do I put in the command codes and stuff?

I really don't care if I have to start over or anything, to me it just sounds like I really need the browser.apk back. I'll do either one though.

Thanks again everyone! :)

To get the command prompt, Go to the start button and click run. Then type the letters "cmd". The command prop should pop up

You can do a simple reset factory data and it will restore it. I did the same thing.
Factory Reset does not restore deleted system files, hence why such measures are necessary to even get system files back on the phone.

If things cannot be resolved using ADB, the next option is the ROM. Either an alternate is installed using Custom Recovery or the default is reinstalled using LGNPST. On a side note, invest in Titanium Backup PRO. It has the ability to push backed up system apps onto the phone if you delete them, among it's many other wonderful features. However I don't know if you can take the backup from one phone and restore it in another. That's something I might test out one day, as it could help greatly with restoring system apps.

Make sure your phone's screen is on so that you can see the prompt from SuperUser on your phone asking your permission. I leave the "Screen On while charging" option checked so that the screen only dims and does not go out while I'm plugged into the AC charger or PC.
