Amazing number of people on AF have proclaimed their Droid is on it's deathbed. Well, it's about time we had a poll to get an idea of just how many of us there are.

Feel free to speak up about what's wrong with your OG. Hell, maybe some might find a solution to their issue that might give their phone a stay of execution.

This is going to be a simple two answer poll, "Yes" or "No". If you've had multiple Droids, but the one you're on now is ok, you've experienced at least one Droid that wasn't up to snuff. That counts as a "Yes". If you're noticing your Droid has had significant diminished performance, even it's still useable, that's also a "Yes".

The concept of this poll is to awaken your inner conspiracy theorist, or to shut him up all together.

Still on my original since day 2 of launch. Both my wife's and mine have really stood the test of time. While mine has been rooted and rom'd since Jan of '10, hers is stuck on froyo (and sadly the same goddamn wallpaper since she bought it, ugh). I've definitely moved around on ROMs, but am just sticking with CM7 for the moment (Chevy 1.2Ghz ULV kernel). There are still quite a few bugs I find, and I often have problems with the phone waking in a timely fashion to answer a phone call. All and all, I've been happy with it and am happy to stick around until the Bionic hits (hopefully unlocked BL) or the SGSII (hopefully LTE). I just bought a Galaxy Tab 10.1 yesterday and been having a ton of fun playing with it, so the Droid is basically my email/twitter/phone device now.

Mine reboots from time to time as well as decides to not use notifications, only way to fix that last one is to reboot it.

Beyond that it works although it is starting to lag pretty often.

My Launch Day Droid has BEEN on its last leg... and when the 16GB card failed Monday, I thought it was the end. But I replaced the 16GB with my stand-by 32GB card and the Droid has never performed better. I can't explain it!

My LWP doesn't just "disappear" anymore, few random reboots, no hangups... I still voted "yes" just because I AM (was) having issues up to and including this week. But it looks like "D" has found her second wind and will be able to hang in there until the Function comes out (now due sometime in August).

EDIT: it was nice while it lasted... but my problems are back. Random reboots, LWP vanishes, more hangups than a telemarketer shop. Second wind turned out to be a fart in a hurricane and now I impatiently await this phone again.

I am running CM7 at 1 GHz, with the Supercharger script and the phone runs smooth. Everything basic works, I am just trying to identify the causes of some issues with Netflix. Otherwise my phone could probably last another year, at least until Ice Cream comes out, which I am hoping could actually breathe a little life back into it.

I'm watching the Galaxy S II series of phones since I want (essentially) a World Phone. It appears that the android system will continue to evolve to work on multiple ranges of hardware, which could allow for a good base of hardware (GSII) to be able to get a very good lifespan (4 years?) with an intelligent operator and solid dev group. I would like to remove a dependance on carriers and shop for the best deals.

I will be VERY surprised if an Ice Cream ROM comes out for the Droid - that works. Gingerbread barely works on it (doesn't on mine), and devs really had to do some magic to work within the tiny memory constraints of the Droid. The SGS2 is expected to have 1GB RAM... FOUR TIMES the memory of the Droid. A "Cyanogen 8" Ice Cream ROM should definitely work on it. The Droid? Errrr, I'm hesitant to predict that one; but I've learned that, in electronics, you never say never.

Absolutely not, but I think in part this depends on what you use it for. I'm on a replacement Droid, but voted NO because *I* broke the first one, and prior to that it had no issues. My original was ROMed (after a year), and this one has been since day 1. I have a handful of apps and 1 (yes, 1) game; as far as I'm concerned, it's still very usable - it does what I want it to do, with little or no lag. I can see the limited memory and storage space in the OG Droid being a problem if I had/wanted more apps though.

Mine is still going strong, in spite of the batteries needing to be replaced, and in spite of being OCd to 900 MHz, running GB, constantly running out of memory, overheating on Nav, etc.

I cannot believe that this phone is still kicking after all I have put it through. Hell, the physical keyboard still is hard to slide out like when I bought it, has not loosened appreciably at all in 1.5+ years.

Of course, now I need to knock on wood / touch wood b/c this thing is apt to bite me in the arse in the next week or two, I can feel it. Why not, I mean, I've already managed to let my HDs get fried by some freak of nature...and misery loves company and bad things happen in threes. Althogh, technically, that should be covered, since it was 3 HDs that got fried simultaneously.

That would be an excellent suggestion. Perhaps there's a direct correlation to rooted Droids that are having issues (like mine), and stock. Too bad I don't know how to edit polls.

Yea...someone got a DX1 when it launched and they said it was lagging bad. Taking out or replacing the sd card fixed it. Dont know if it was a permanent fix or not, cant remember.

I got my Droid 1 in March 2010, it was also manufactured in 2010. I've had very lil issues with it. GB didnt agree with it so I went back to Froyo and all is well. Its not my main phone anymore, but I do still use it more than a normal back up phone. Its more like my 2nd phone, I just dont use it for voice or 3G.

It also looks newer than my Droid X1...lol Me, my kids and their mother have dropped my DX1 too many times.

Still have my original, and it works pretty much as good as it did on day one, honestly!

It's rooted, running 2.2.1, and only a few tiny glitches that I attribute to the ROM I'm running.

But all in all, it's awesome.

Still, it will be dumped within the month. The screen is so freaking tiny compared to the 4.3 inchers. And heavy. I never use the QWERTY, I hate that stupid thing. Just swype for me. And I did hate that the cheap gold paint they used on the camera button flaked off about 3 months after I bought it. But otherwise, no problems.

Good bye, D1. You've served me well. Perhaps I shall burn you in an honorable ceremony (after removing your flammable battery, of course).

Then it's on to the Bionic!

My OG D1 is still going strong. It gets a bit murky after a couple weeks of uptime, but I attribute that to the CM7 GB ROM rather than the device itself.
I, like many others here, am continually amazed that the little bugger still works as well as it does considering the vast array of ROMs, indie apps, soft-keyboard replacements, kernels, etc.. that I've crammed on it over the past 20 months.
That said, the Bionic has been calling my name since CES... What a wait it's been!

I thought mine was on its last leg a month ago til I rooted it. It was lagging so bad, and freezing, with multiple reboots. So I finally rooted it and have been using Smoked Glass GB ROM and OC, and it is very quick, responsive, and the battery lasts a long time. Even faster than my wife's DX. I got my OG on launch day and I love it again. Only wish I had more internal memory. Hopefully it keeps going to something worthwhile comes along.

I got the OG Droid on launch day, however I had to get a warranty replacement 6 months in when the keyboard delaminated.

So I've had this recent one for over a year, and it is in prime condition. Never used a screen protector yet not even a hairline scratch. The gold camera button is still perfectly gold. This keyboard held up fine, though I did switch to using on screen mostly.

As far as performance, well, it can't handle ANY Gingerbread roms. No multitasking, incredibly slow, random reboots, bad battery life. I finally gave up and switched back to a Froyo (Droid Concepts) and it is stunningly smooth, handles everything I throw at it. And I've had it rooted and OCed to 1GHz the entire time I've had it.
Battery life isn't what it used to be (iirc I kept the original battery during the warranty replacement), the limited app memory is frustrating, and I never did like the camera on the OG Droid so I am anxiously awaiting a new phone *cough*bionic*cough*
But honestly, it's hard to complain about my little OG beast.

I was considering the Droid 3, but my GB woes have taught me to pay close attention to RAM. Sure, Droid 3 runs fine now- but what's going to happen to that measly 512mb when Ice Cream Sandwich hits it?

Nope but I'm rooted and on a custom ROM with Launcher Pro.

A lot of Droids on their "last legs" are probably just having software related performance issues.

Mine is very laggy and I have the touch screen digitizer issue where the middle bottom part of the screen doesn't sense anything

I got my original Droid a month or two after it came out. I never had to get it replaced, and the few times I ran into strange issues it was resolved with a factory reset. The hardware itself was solid, and the software issues (some lag, etc) was probably due to having around 100 apps loaded on it.

I used the phone pretty much every day, and although I have moved onto a newer Droid the phone itself has been loaned to a family member who is now learning the world of Android phones on my old Droid.

So, I would say it is far from being on its last legs.

I bought mine on day 1, and rooted in in January 2010. I have used mostly CM roms and chevy medium voltage kernels since then but lately I switched to project elite with its stock 1.1 mv kernel and it seems to be the best so far for my particular phone. It resolved (almost entirely) a problem I've had with wifi dropping, often in the middle of a download that seemed to plague me through different routers, locations, etc, and fussy bluetooth when in my BMW with integrated BT. All of my market apps that can be moved (App2SD and/or manually) to SD have been moved. I use launcher Pro Plus. I get a lot of lag that is frustrating. (I want to push a buuton and see instant results!) The maximum overclock speed on this phone seems to be 1.1GHz.

Since Vz is the best carrier in my location I would like to stay with them. Since I am disabled and relatively home-bound I am more concerned about reliable and fast wifi, so 4G isn't as important to me as some of you. I just want a quick, memory-rich device, with a beautiful and large display. Rooting, overclocking and custom ROMS are highly preferable unless the phone is absolutely awesome out of the box, but Verizon doesn't sell any of those so I am adamant about the ability to do it myself. I want the ability to run Firefox browser, HBO2Go, and other newer apps that won't run on my Droid. Better battery life would also be a plus, and don't need the physical keyboard, as I have never used it except for the X key when booting into Clockwork!

Got my D1 one month after it came out, and it's been really good for the past year and a half. Within the past few months, though, it's developed a lag, the built-in ADW Launcher force closes every time I reboot, the power buttom has somehow sunk in (had to glue a small piece of plastic to it so I could actually turn it on), and just last night the wi-fi stopped working. (Spent the evening re-flashing UD2.5, flashing basebands, and trying to get a legible typeface back into it. Accomplished all three, but not without a lot of foul language.)

After the wi-fi thing and the lags, I'm seriously thinking about the dreaded iFoam when my contract comes due. Tho I hate what they stand for, I've never had a single problem with my iPod nano (4thG), or my iPad. They're rock-solid and you know the apps will work. Period.

I just have to figure out if I'm still cut out for this Wild West of Androidville.

Regardless of what the next phone is, I'm not loading all kinds of crapps on it that I never use.

If you didn't overclock your phone, you wouldn't have that problem. It's your fault, not the DROID.

well this is my first post on this forum. my non-rooted Droid still works, but I do a phone reset every 4 months or so. due a new phone in Aug, and thinking galaxy s2 or bionic. just got galaxy tab 10.1, so mostly use Droid as a phone now. btw, anyone been able to tether the galaxy tab to the Droid?
