Help 2.2 Makes my Milestone Very Slow/Unresponsive

So I've had 2.2 for a couple months now, and I've dealt with it this long, but I'm getting really tired of having a phone I don't even want to use because of the unresponsiveness.

So when I was on 2.1, my phone randomly rebooted. Sometimes 2-3 times a day, and then sometimes nothing for a week. It was very random.

After upgrading to 2.2, the reboots still happen (possibly more frequently) and even happen in the middle of me writing a text message. On top of the reboots, after upgrading to 2.2, my home screen becomes a lot more laggy, browsing the internet is extremely laggy and slow compared to before, typing in searches will freeze up for about 10 seconds after hitting a letter, and any scrolling (horizontal/vertical) that I do is really lagggy as well.

I have never rooted my phone and I use the Telus Moto Milestone.

Can anyone tell me if there is a cure for this type of behaviour? Is it possible my update didn't install correctly? For the record, I updated using Motorola's software on my PC and not through Telus autoupdate on the phone's mobile network. Is there a way to revert back to the original firmware my phone came with and then reinstalling 2.2 a clean way?

The firmware released by Motorala is full of bugs. You better flash a custom ROM on your Milestone. I can recommend CM6 (Froyo) or CM7 (Gingerbread, which is still being updated frequently by Nadlabak).
These versions are really stable and much better than what Motorola gave us.

So is it just the firmware for Telus customers or for everyone worldwide? Is everyone who has a Milestone having these issues? That seems odd that Motorola doesn't fix this. I was hoping not to have to do any type of rooting/modding as I'm a pretty basic user.

I was a basic user until the laggy bugfest that is the 2.2 moto release was purged from my phone with the cleansing fires of Cyanogenmod. I used the rooting and updating method to cm from this forum and everything is a lot better than before. Not perfect, but definitely a lot better.

I started with cm7, but I use a lot of memory hungry apps and games and while it was good, it still wasn't performing as good as I wanted due the low ram of the milestone. So I decided to try cm6 and found a happy place. The one I currently use was originally developed by nadlabak, and is being continued by milaq and it is great. Cm7 is based on gingerbread which uses a lot more resources than cm6 which is based on froyo, and cm6 for this reason works better with my memory hungry apps such as gosms, dolphin browser and need for speed shift.

So I would recommend taking the plunge, root your phone and try some custom roms. You shouldn't be disappointed.
