Star Wars: The Old Republic

i'd save your money for a while

and honestly, the minimum on this will prob be a low low end duel core , 1 -2 gb ram and a 512 mb video card, maybe even a 256mb card

a modern upgrade would be overkill in a major way

I can't even get decent fps in WoW with those specs bud... I am not talking about minimum specs to run the game. I am talking about specs that would actually allow me to ENJOY the game.

If you are in a raid with lots going on and you want graphics maxed, you are going to dump $1000 into your system. Last thing I played was rift and it ran pretty poorly on my 3 year old rig when there was a butt-ton of stuff going on. Same goes for FFXIV, though that was beta.

My wife got my old computer, a gtx 280 phenom with Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition and 8 gb of ram, and nothing in Rift made her lag, no raids or anything.. so you are mistaken.

my current setup could easily run tor 2 or 3 times over (it runs it one time over like a charm - and the game is very meh anyways) with a i72600k gtx 580 and 8gb of ram

you can spend 500-800 dollars, and max out SW:TOR EASILY, WAY SUB $1000, if you already have some decent parts $200-300 on a card will do you well.

they are making the game to allow the same people who have crap computers that play wow , be able to play their game... thats why this game looks like it was made in 2004 :p

Alright man. I disagree, and will leave it at that. The point of this discussion isn't meant to revolve around what I want to spend on my rig. I will say, if I am dropping $800 on a system as you suggest, to me, that is close enough to a grand to throw that out as a rough estimate.

Good point. I personally spent just over a thousand on mine. When playing Star Wars galaxies on my 800 dollar store bought PC I turned a couple settings down for optimal performance. Happy to say I don't have to do that anymore.

(for the record, if i had 2 or 3 grand to spend i would of... just saying)

Sure but what I'm saying is I've been playing the game, and its graphics are very 2004ish and it will run mint on low end computers.

And my recommendation before blowing money on a new pc just for this game, I'd try it out first.

Pre orders went up this morning. CE has a bunch more in game extras than digital CE. Regular gets none. There will be early access for pre orders, 6 days from what's on the forum.

The release is somewhere between 10/21 & Christmas tho year.

I would do links but I don't know how to go about that from my Thunderbolt.

So I realized pre-orders get some color crystal to change lightsaber color. Cool. What if you are one of the majority of classes that doesn't wield a lightsaber. SOL?

The way I justified the price is that I haven't purchased a game since the last wow expansion. Literally. I just don't find myself doing a whole ton of gaming anymore. I used to spend way more than $150 a year on gaming, so I figure this little splurge is ok lol. FWIW I have also spent a butt-ton more on star wars action figures in the past (oh god, I am really admitting my geekiness here I think!) Pretty excited for the statue too. It should be awesome, for the price.

I am also interested in the unique merchant. I am sure it isn't going to be something very game changing, but a pocket merchant that sells items that are generally only available in the city while out on the field, maybe even for a much higher price, wouldn't be too "broken". I am probably dreaming here...

Here's my other justification. I only have to put $20 down. I get to be in the "open beta" and see how the game is. If it sucks, I can get back the pre-order money. If it's awesome, but I change my mind, I can still just buy the base game. Really the only thing I can;t do is buy the middle of the road (digital only) copy, if I wanted my $20 to count for something. Even then, I may be able to get my $20 in the form of store credit if I wanted to go that route and just re-order online.

@lotr - Are you trying to justify your purchase to yourself or convince us that we should pre-order? :p

I myself haven't been not purchasing CE's for a long time because I set myself a yearly game budget. This will be the exception that screws the yearly budget. Hopefully I won't instantly regret the extra ingame stuff.

Was actually looking forward to it, but if its true about TOR being "Origin" exclusive, then EA can take a dive down the toilet, their current project in trying to force competition with other distributors like Steam and D2D is going to end, very bad and very fast, and who's the real losers here?

Us, the gamers.

Methods aside, from the traliers, I was hooked when seeing The Return, the other two really nagged at me to want to play, especially how KOTOR turned out, I loved the story.
