you know guys i came from Pre and wished i had all these apps and now i have the Hero and i have no use for all these apps, but this new supersonic does nothing for me, it looks like a droid without the slider and looks like the rest of HTC lineup, so it have faster cpu but still no flash drive witch is not cool. honestly if this new phone looks like the one in pics it is nothing special. What do you guys think? honestly how many apps do you need on one phone, i use the same ones i used on the pre with exception of some that pre does not have yet. PrO enjoy your Hero cause we dont know when HTC be coming with this unit since WiMax is not everywhere yet. Wonder if Pre and iPhone will use snapdragon how will they run speed wise.

Doubtful. Why would Sprint bring a Wimax phone out already when its not due to be up and running for a year? They will most likely release the Bravo this Spring and the Supersonic towards the end of the year when they get ready to launch Wimax.

We'll soon know if you're right or not. This does seem like a real phone to me and it reminds me of all the leaked information that lead up to the release of the Nexus One. I was amazed when almost all of that leaked information came true.

I'm hoping the HTC Supersonic will be officially announced next month: HTC schedules press event on February 16th at Mobile World Congress

Earlier this month at CES, Sprint announced the WiMAX Overdrive Hub. That's been available since January 10th. I don't know a lot about it, but I believe 4G coverage is available in some areas of the country right now and like you said mbell75, by year's end a lot more areas will have coverage. Because 4G isn't fully deployed, I don't see that as a reason for Sprint to hold back. They expect you to keep a phone for 18-24 months and it seems that a fully deployed (or nearly so) 4-G coverage falls within that time range. I also think this phone will stir excitement and interest in Sprint's WiMAX service.

Personally, I'm excited about the Supersonic. I've been considering jumping ship when the Nexus One comes to Verizon in March, but this phone overcomes most of the criticism brought out in the media about the N1. Customer service is good with Sprint too, and right now, that can't be said about Google and the N1.

This seems like a very good move on Sprint's part to stop people like me from jumping ship and they will probably even gain new customers.

So..unless I've been mistaken, I keep seeing that the SS will run on both WiMAX and 3g. If this is the case, wouldn't Sprint and HTC want to release this device as quickly as they can to gain revenue and buildup for the 4g service as it rolls out more and more?

"Now you can be ready for the next wave of cell service. The HTC Supersonic." Or something along those lines. ;)

i have read that some where also. I dont know if it is true or not or where i read it at. it said something about wimax being backwards compatible so it can run off 3G and 4G

According to this spec sheet at phonearena, the Supersonic is 3G capable. Also, the information on the WiMAX Hub, shows it as having dual 4G/3G connectivity.

of course it will. think they're going to give you more speed for free? The only reason 4g and 3g broadband service is the same right now is because of the promo with the launch of the new 4g card. That will end, and it'll be back to being a premium.

i would think that once 4G (LTE) is completely rolled out that verizon would only have all 4G (at least for pricing)?

Not for a while, iirc.
Since there would still need support for legacy/non-lte devices.

EDIT: I mean for fallback when there is no 4g signal. Wouldn't want to have a customer go out of a 4g area and be completely stuck and there is a 3g. Now if only I lived 5 miles to the north I'd be able to have Sprint's 4g/WiMax. :p

that's the point. selecting text is much easier when you have precision which you don't have with a capacitive touchscreen. The trackpad and trackball offer precision. I use the the 4-way cursor buttons on the keyboard all the time when navigating through text boxes, some scrolling, along with editing. It's just more efficient than using your fingers and having the screen guess by pressure what letter you meant to put the cursor before and where you wanted it to stop selecting.
