Root Painless bloatware removal

Stuff like VZ Navigator and other "untouchable" apps I'll never use - I want them gone. But... I really don't want to get into hacking my DINC2. I don't want to mess with DINC2 only to find I've rendered it braindead. Is there a painless "one and done" way to lose the bloatware?

Greetings RB,

Unfortunately, without rooting the phone, there is no way to remove all of the useless bloat ware on the phone.

A simple, cosmetic approach is to use a alternate launcher like Go launcher or Launcher Pro. Both of these allow you to "Hide" the apps from menus and your sight. They will still be on the phone, you just won't have to look at them.

That's about the only thing you can do without messing with your phone.

Meh... sweeping the icons under digital rug doesn't do it. Seeing VZ Navigator as an option for mapping directions, for example, would still be there. And there's the space used up by all the cruft.

Soooooooooooooooo... what's the least injurious way to root and, if at all possible, "de-root" after the cruft is gone? (I know - serious topic drift)

I don't see a topic drift here. Removing bloatware is directly related to rooting.

Just follow the rooting guide in this forum: Incredible 2 - All Things Root - Android Forums and you will be rooted.

As for unrooting, there is no way to unroot yet. But rest assured that a hacking community that can make it possible to boot a custom ROM such as CM will get an unroot method soon.

If you have any questions, just let us know.

I check here daily 3 -5 times a day to see if there is any sign of hope

I check many different places, XDA primarily, to see if there is any sign of an unroot method. It'll be here eventually, just a matter of time.

I just picked up my Incredible 2 today and I now see what everyone means about bloatware! HOLY CRAP there are a lot of useless system apps here! The second there is an unroot method, I am getting rid of all of these pointless space wasters.

Hey RB, really wanna barf?
My Dinc2 is not activated so, it has no type of service, connections, etc., unless I enable wifi.
I noticed the other day, just messing with it, (not connected to wifi) I tried to open NFS shift and play it. I was greeted by a message that read NFS shift requires approximately 100mb of additional data to play, download now? It was on the settings screen where you are supposed to turn on the mobile internet. Now, I don't know if your phone is activated and has service does it even show this message? Or is this hidden by a long loading screen? 100mb!!? I don't care if this the best racing game ever, I am going to try my best never to touch the icon, if that's what's gonna happen! I tried let's golf too, to see how horrible it was and was greeted by the same message, this one did not show how many mb it needed and I am sure after you download this additional data you can not undo it (maybe by clearing data on the app?) or move the pre-installed app to sd card.

These games actually download that data to the sd card, unless I am mistaken. But I have had a couple games like that. The games have so many resource files that instead of making the apk 100+ mbs, the keep the apk at a relatively low size and then read from the sd card.

If the Inc2 is anything like my Inc1, you guys can 86 the bloat by using Titanium in Chuck Norris mode, or Root Explorer, or ADB. Just don't forget to nand backup beforehand in case anything goes south. Congrats on the root guys.

(edit: looks like although this is in the root forum, some were looking for a method without root. Oh well, just passing through lol)
