Plan on purchasing this phone as soon as it is available in my area. Would like to know what problems to look for when purchasing the phone to make sure I do not have a lemon. Please add on and if you have found fixes to any of the problems let me know. These are some problems I have gathered from this forum and howardforums.

GPS-excessive length of time connecting(Ive heard this might be juice defender related). Possible fix-Settings--Location and security--make sure "use wireless networks and use GPS satellites" are checked off.
Buttons-light leakage at bottom of phone(not a big issue, but not standard either)
Battery-Not holding a charge(I heard draining battery completely then recharging fully helps), battery cover doesnt fit snugly. My personal issue is "cell standby" and "phone signal" are sucking up a lot of battery, could be weak antenna inside phone from what Im gathering.
Display-blue tint, flickering screen, color palette issues. I noticed blue tint in camera mode when I bought my phone. I went to settings-display and turned off auto brightness and turned brightness down to about 30%. No blue for me.
Camera-blurry, choppy video(this might be the norm)---Possible fix per hofo member:all the default settings for the regular camera and the video camera are set to low settings (kind of odd). you have to manually go into the settings of the phone and change them to 720p for recording video, and also change the camera to 5mp and autofocus. I also heard "daytime" setting works the best for camcorder.
Phone calls-static phone calls when at a louder volume(this may have been speaker phone, not positive).

I don;t know if it's just a coincidence, but all the phones with problems like a bad screenand the like seem to have been purchased at Best Buy, while phones purchased at Radio Shack have been problem free.

On howardforums one guy using GPS test app locked up GPS sats in 3s but he had a fluctuating signal he claimed.

I could replicate his results OUTSIDE, but I had 7 sats in view and locked up all 7 in about 20-30s from a cold start(which is actually quite good). I had it lying horizontally and got his original 51.5' acc which then improved to 36.6' and stabilized, i.e. no fluctuation(guy on hofo was doing it indoors, so I wasn't surprised by any fluctuations or the relatively poor acc). At this point I picked it up and held it vertically and acc immediately improved to, and stabilized at 6.1' which is better by 9' than the best acc. that I ever got out of the ov which was 15' usually. OV had better accuracy lying horizontally and from what I recall took about the same amount of time to lock up GPS sats as the MT did... If GPS doesn't work then you do have a problem.

My battery cover fits perfectly. It a much better design that the cheap pop off cover on the OV. The batt cover not fitting is likely operator error. [EDIT2] The MT is actually a MUCH superior batt cover design which has 3 clips down each long side of the cover but they are tricky to line up properly with the chassis and it does require a bit of even pressure to ensure that all the clips properly slide into place, whereas with the OV the damned cheapo popoff design would come off all of the time when I didn't want it to, yet was PITA to get off when I actually did want it off... [/EDIT2]

Blue tint is slight, no palette problems. Overall it's a definite win over the OV which is red shifted BTW. This is not a problem either it's a property of the display (and probably backlighting) used.

Flickering: now this is a possible problem, possibly marginal component in some phones. Mine doesn't exhibit this problem.

Camera: did you remove the lens protector? As mine's not blurry at all and is definitely better than the OV's camera which was indeed wonky at the best of times. However I really don't care as this is NOT a camera NOR is it a DVR...

Why exactly is the camera app defaulting to minimum values a problem? Is it too hard for you to change them? You realize that they stay changed right? Or at least mine did.

Actually I think that the VAST majority of "problems" that people are whining about really aren't, and many of them seem to be used by the crap apps that they're running like juice defender. I tried it out once and did indeed verify(as I had been told by others) that it increased batt usage and interfered with normal operation of my OV. Not to mention I see mention of many task killing apps and auto ones with aggressive settings, and I suggest that ignorant people are killing services that should actually be running out of their ignorant desire for whatever it is that they think that they're getting from running a task killer in the first place... at best it's a placebo.

[EDIT]
I do have some annoyances though:
BLIDINGLY BRIGHT cap button backlighting
low specced OEM batt
poor antenna design translating to 5-7dBm lower signal v. OV which translates in terms of "bars" (a nearly useless metric BTW) of 1-2 bars on the MT where I used to get 2 bars fairly solidly on the OV... still same craptacular 3G data rate & ping as with the OV...

and that's about it o.w. it's just so much better than the OV or actually my Archos A43 & A32, and really the display is better than my Viewsonic gTablet...

Thanks for the reply. As I stated, I have not purchased this phone yet, these are just some of the problems I have seen others encounter. I just want to have a summary of what to look for when I do purchase mine so I don't assume that the issue is supposed to be that way or I overlook a problem. Ive just seen a ton of posts with problems on people's phones, but some of them can be fixed in settings or something.

Yeah, it's really weird. Some people do have some legitimate problems while the VAST majority just seem to be trying their best to find or manufacture something that they can whinge about for some reason(maybe it's the heat wave?). To me this phone is nearly infinitely better than the obsolete by design OV.

So, yep many "problems" can be fixed by changing sw setting, e.g. camera. I might've been the first to post about that because I took a couple test pix w/o checking assuming that it defaulted to high and then to my disgust found that it defaulted to min res! So, I simply changed the settings retook a couple of pix and a short vid problem solved in seconds.

[EDIT]
Really to me the MOST important thing to watch out for if you have an OV or probably other VMUSA phone is to watch the signal where you normally use them. IF you're getting -100 or so dBm with those the MT's gonna be flakey or no signal probably. It's truly the biggest weakness of the MT...

You keep knocking down the V,remember 2 things it is half he price of triumph,so i would hope the triumph would be better, also name another 150 android phone as good as the V.i cannot speak for the truimph, but my V works and has no issues.and what makes you so sure the issues people are having are not legit.all i know this is not a 10 dollar flip phone, if i spend 300 dollars on something it better work as advertised, radio issues on the hardware side in this day and age are un acceptable.

So, you can't afford a triumph eh? [EDIT] Here ya go, just turned up in hofo thread, get yourself a 10% coupon, and then supposed next week BB gives a $50 gift card if you let them activate(swap too I'd assume) making it ~$219...

[/EDIT]

No it's not half the price, it's close to $100 less if you're smart and use the 10% coupon.

BTW what radio problems? They chose to design their antenna that way so it's a bit more sensitive weak signal, not HUGELY sensitive but enough so that in already marginal areas the MT wouldn't be useful and everything else would be flakey anyways.

Face the OV was obsolete the moment it was designed, lacking in storage, using an obsolete(outside of embedded applications) CPU core, etc.

The MT just simply works as advertised just as well as the OV does and it's just so far ahead of the OV it's not even funny...

i have never heard of BB offering any activation discount on a prepaid plan where activation is free to begin with, and as for the Radio's GPS Radios should work fine in the middle of the ocean,so that theory is discredited, all i see is people posting complaints about this phone most upgraded from the V complaining about radios using the triumph in the same location as the V,everyone has the right to opinions, and when the reviews by the users are mentioning the same issues, you start to think who is BS and who are fanboys and who is truthful.i could care less about any other features of a phone if any of the radios are garbage the phone is worthless.

I don't know if it is just my phone, but the sound quality is awful! I am coming from a Sprint HTC Hero and its just plain bad. I also can't use the speaker phone as the other person is getting a MASSIVE amount of feedback from the call (I suspect microphone and speaker placement is the issue). Speaker works fine otherwise. Microphone is bad as well, all the people I have talked to said I am muffled, they can't hear me clearly however I can hear them good.

Anybody else have these problems? I hope its just my unit.

Thanks

do you still have the orignal dust cover on the screen or a case on the phone (maybe mic is covered up?) or did you install a screen protector on your phone that required using liquid by chance - maybe water got into the mic? is your phone rooted? just trying to help you trouble shoot.

I have a ton of reboots. Reboots like 3 times a day. Biggest issue is the screen sensitivity. Sometimes I try to unlock it and while I'm dragging my finger across, it springs back to the other side. I have to drag my finger across the screen sometimes 4 or 5 times before its successful. Sometimes the capacitive buttons don't work at all and I have to hit it a few times before I feel the haptic feedback.
Honestly I thought it was going to be much worse than it is. I was fully expecting an Optimus V 2. Remember, it costs as much as a contract messaging phone retail price. The thing is cheap.

My camera's auto focus makes a crunching sound when using red laser and a clicking sound when just taking pictures.

I've had my phone for a week now and it just started doing the screen flicker thing.

I have some light leak at the bottom too.

Anyone else notice their widgets like facebook and beautiful widgets resize themselves randomly?

GPS - I've tried all suggestions and still slow sat lock every time I use it.

Not the best reception - 1 bar in my house

Slow/flakey 3g

When using headset jack listening to music and receive notification volume decreases and doesn't return to previous level.

Call me crazy but I still like this phone.

Just brought my MT a couple of hours ago, and my phone will not turn on!!!! Just wondering did anybody else have this issue? it said charge it for 4 hours but it's been well over 2 hours and the phone still won't turn on. I'm thinking I got a lemon from bestbuy

I'm in the same boat man. I bought mine from Best buy a few hours ago and it never even turned on, i'm so pissed right now at Motorola and Virgin Mobile. I am going to BB in the morning right at 10am and will swap it out and test it out before i leave the store.

I give up on the crunching/clicking sound with the camera. I returned one today to BB with that problem and opened a new one up with the sales rep and it does the same thing. I got their replacement plan so if it dies i'll at least be able to get unlimited replacements for the 1st year.

Maybe future patches won't have so many issues.

Hello this is my first post and i was just wondering was anyone else having problems while streaming videos on the triumph, like with youtube.

Are you on 3g or wifi? If you're on their network maybe try it on your wireless and see if there's any difference but streaming video on youtube hasn't given me any issues.

Yeah i tried it on 3g as well but most of the time i just use my wifi. Its crazy because the video will be playing great and then for no reason major pixelation pops up. It never stays up there long. It just comes and goes.
