Triumph battery life reasonable expectations?

This is my first smartphone, as well as my first Android phone, but I'm amazed at how quickly I can go through a battery with the Triumph. I haven't been able to stretch the battery for more than ~8 hours with a variety of usage (watching a few youtube videos, playing a game for 20min, a few phone calls, light web surfing, etc.) and I'm wondering what are reasonable expectations for an Android smartphone and is this an issue with my usage or do I possibly have a defective battery or phone? How can I conserve battery life without turning off all the useful features and hamstringing the thing, effectively turning it into a dumbphone?

I use my phone through out the day....a lot. Since I've got the triumph, I've been tracking battery usage with the settings>about phone>battery or whatever it says haha this is quite interesting.
I've had the phone since Friday and I've noticed it dying pretty quickly. It's not usually an issue for me 'cause I always have my charger or car charger with me. With the battery tracking, an app that I wasn't even logged into used 78% of my battery! Holy crap. That's a lot. After deleting it, and doing more tracking of what's using it, it seems to last a lot longer. I also have my screen brightness turned down all the way 'cause that's just how I like it so I'm assuming that helps also.
Overall it's about what I expected to get out of the phone. I'm a very heavy user (using it for hours a day at work texting and web surfing) so I couldn't give anyone an accurate picture of what the battery life is like haha.

Oddly, crap again today for me... something like 40 some percent, while yesterday it started at something like 90% and gradually dropped to 0% over the day and 3% batt usage... VERY different from the OV... [EDIT] OV would almost ALWAYS start HIGH TWS after reboot but drop, while MT is being erratic for me ATM... [/EDIT]

Heh heh heh! Samsung Indulge guy! Get real! You'll be a one in 100s of thousands(if not millions) if you find someone who had one and now has an MT...

Go buy one @ Target, 90d return policy and see for yourself!

So far today it is 15%, so not bad. I've had better luck today with the battery and I think with smarter management, I can definitely get through a day on a single charge. I updated the antenna settings per another thread and that seemed to help, along with turning off the 3G when I'm not using it and switching to a static background rather than an animated one. It could be less the phone and more a learning curve on my part, so I'm feeling better about the battery.

Just put this in a thread on GPS, but thought it pertinent enough to post in the battery one as well:
On battery consumption, Google MAPS reports that it is the consumer of 96% PERCENT of my battery. Not cool, as everything else is consuming very minimal resources, and otherwise battery life might be even better than OV. Mind you GPS was toggled off all day when I generated this data. Anyone else seeing this?

My phone loses about 50% of its charge over night, how can I change this?

I installed juice defender, my first time using this program and just left it at standard settings. Not sure if this is efficient enough.

Since 16 hours ago.

Cell standby accounted for 43%
Phone Idle 35%

Took over 3 hours to charge to 100% from 15% this morning. Im guess cause its burning juice with this cell standby issue while recharging.

Any fixes for this? I read something about putting it in airplane mode, but how and what effect would this have? Do I have to take it out of airplane mode if I want to make a call or use data?

Airplane Mode shuts down all of the radios (bluetooth/wifi/cellular) in order to save battery. And yes, whenever you wanted to use anything data related you'd either disable Airplane Mode or just turn on that individual radio. I really REALLY can't wait till an extended life battery comes out for this behemoth!

BTW: I use tasker to set profiles - I perfected a lot of diff things to get the most out my OV, given my preferences of course. I am losing 20% or more battery overnight that's compared to about 2% on the OV- with wifi, mobile data, and syncing on. No apps running besides what's absolutely nec to make the gears turn. And yet still, batt statistics reports that Maps is the largest consumer of battery. So wierd - will go find more info. And GPS is off for me unless I activate it upon startup of certain apps. Soooo strange.

It does if an app is using a significant amount of battery power. Maps and K-9 Mail routinely show up in that list for me. But they show up at a pretty low percentage.

I'm not sure the battery is that horrible. Just about on par with my wife's rooted Dinc and discharges about the same as my Dinc with same usage... I am currently testing out the MT and VM, might switch, hence I am PITA carrying 2 phones and juggling, haha.

We were going through 10%+/hr of battery life. However, we've (2 triumphs) now gotten that down to 6% on my phone (everything including wifi, gps, bt on) and my wife's to 4%/hr (just wifi on) with light usage. I think the difference was that I killed the 'Where' app that was preinstalled by going into the settings app and clicking 'clear data'. I've done lots of other stuff to the phones but I think that was the battery hog.

Has anyone else tried this? If so, what did you find?

I've compared battery life with the Inc and the Inc2, and it's about the same. Smartphone battery life just sucks all around, there's no way around it. Smartphone technolgy has outpaced battery technology.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that "bump charging" gives you true 100% if not really close to full capacity. I use this method with the Dinc and this with great results. I bump charge 1 while getting ready & the other in the car with the rapid charger. Also, while at home use wifi, uses less battery.

Doesn't bump charging kill the life of the battery though? I know people whom have done it and the battery lasts them less than a year!

My phone went from 100% charge to 11% in 3 hours and about 30 minutes. I had everything on, blue tooth, gps, wifi, brightest screen, etc. I played games, watched videos, recorded video, used the flash as a flashlight, and just everything I could think of that would drain the battery.

When I turn off the GPS and don't make such heavy use, I get about 2 or 3 days on a full charge with moderate "normal" use.

2 or 3 days without charging? I wish! Even with me barely using it mines DOA in less than a day....must have something to do with all my widgets LOL

i'm at 20% with 10 hrs battery life. i was testing the gps a lot though. my TWS was at 98% earlier today and was probably the major cause of the bad battery life

Took the family to Disneyland yesterday. Battery on my Triumph lasted the entire 12+ hours with 15% charge left. That was with very aggressive battery management; wifi, Bluetooth, GPS radios all off and shutting down all unnecessary apps. However, I was using Mouse Wait extensively, texting and made numerous phone calls. This was the first time I was away from a charger for this long, needless to say, I was very satisfied with the battery life.

I think that apps and widgets are the main cause of bad battery life. On Monday I had to factory reset my phone because an app was causing random reboots, and my battery life increased dramatically. Prior to this, I would regularly go through 50-60% of my battery in the 10 hours that it was unplugged for work. Yesterday I went through 12% with my phone sitting there. Today, with several phone calls, and checking Facebook twice, I'm at 74% after 8 hours.
