Official Bionic Release Date Thread

I just went with the max screen I have seen on a phone (Dell Streak). Any larger, and it would be in the tablet category. I couldn't take this phone seriously if they tried to stuff a 720p display in anything less than 5 inches.

Edit: You ninjaed your post. Yeah I realize these are rumors, but I still enjoy taking a .50 cal machine gun to the hot air balloon this rumor is being held up in.

Probably most phone specs change from first rumors to final delivery. The ones that jump out at me are the 13 MP camera and the non-removable battery. Time will tell.......

Yeah, I don't like the sound of a non-removable battery. But there's been talk about a 13mp camera in a smartphone for a bit now. Actually, when word first popped up about the code name "Targa" it was one of the initial speculations. I just hope the sensor (which Sony has been working on for both their and other phones) is as equally dazzling.

A great camera on a phone is of large importance to me.

The Hitachi low volt high res 4.5" IPS panels will be the next hot tech to be looking for in devices by the end of the year. Though I did not mind the 4.3" display on the DX2, the Bionic will be a more popular device and will be picked on by the usual suspects in the media and the forums.

As mentioned before, all of that is cool until folks start assuming their perspective is a common standard of reference- then it gets stupid. Must admit I prefer the 4" display of the D3 over the DX2. IMO, pentile tech seems more suited for a 4" display, since less pixel issues are apparent.

I think the articles must have misguided on the date. More like winter 2012. I'd be putting my money on Moto showing this new phone at CES as "coming soon". They just seem to be having far too many issues to get another super phone out yet this year. Heck, we haven't even seen the Bionic yet. Only rumors suggest August. There's nothing official for this phone other than a sign up page...

yah but it also said the phone was set to become unclassified on august 7th.............Verizon retail stores will still be looking at an early August release. I don't think we will see the FCC disclosure date pass with no phone.....this could only be for costco as the headline says in the link and verizon still may be scheduled for august as different retailers have different launch dates

This is a DROID device...I would tend to think that all DROID devices would launch first exclusively at VW; and if anyone else were to get it early or at same launch as VW, would be Best Buy. I would say it's likely to still be out on the 4th...better be...tired of waiting.

Does COSTCO ever get phones at the same time as the carriers? Don't know, just wondering as I don't have a COSTCO around where I live.

The document in the link says it has been "PUSHED" to September. Meaning it was probably pushed from an earlier date recently, probably August.

I'm just getting really sick of waiting for this phone. Thankfully my OG Droid is still working just fine, otherwise I would've gone with the DX2 and the lags and reboots and mp3 popping noises it's been having trouble with.

Honestly, I'm thinking that unless the Bionic is even better than we all think it is, I'm just going to sit on my upgrade and wait til something better comes around in late November or December. By then (supposedly), the Bionic will be out, the "Dinara" might be out, iphone 5, and SG2 as well. I'll have a better array of options.

Delays after delays with the Bionic just doesn't sit well with me. If something smells crappy, look for the turd. I think the turd lands in September.

You do not have as bad as me I am using a Storm1 rebooting it 6 times a day and wiping it 3 times a month...

Copy and pasted from cnet. Not tryin' to say anything, I posted this just for those who might be interested.

It's time to put yet another Verizon and Motorola smartphone on your radar. Even as we're still waiting for the long-anticipated Droid Bionic to arrive, rumors have started swirling for the next super phone, the Motorola Dinara.
According to sources close to Droid Life, the Dinara will arrive in late 2011 with a form factor that closely resembles a thinner and lighter Droid Bionic. Specifications are said to include a rear-facing 13-megapixel camera, a front-facing VGA camera, a non-replaceable internal battery, and an "HD" screen. It's possible that the display will be qHD (960x540) as Motorola has been using the screen technology for recent handsets.
The processor and memory situation isn't clear, but I wouldn't look for less than a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and 16GB internal storage. Although DroidLife's tipster didn't indicate either way, I also anticipate the phone will support Verizon's 4G LTE network. The Dinara is said to be running Gingerbread at this point; however, it may ultimately have Ice Cream Sandwich when it arrives this winter.
The next question you might be asking is "what's a Dinara?" According to Wikipedia, it's a mountain located near the border of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Android enthusiasts will recognize that this follows a recent pattern of Motorola code names. The Olympus went on to become the Atrix 4G, while the Etna debuts next month as the Droid Bionic. Let's also not forget that the Xoom carried the internal code name of Everest.

I can hear the collective whiney groan of all the now-outdated Bionic owners in November or December.

Noooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

This is getting ridiculous.

I think I'm waiting til end of December to make a choice. Once I do that, I will stay away from forums and tech news until I'm ready to upgrade. All of this "bigger, better, faster" every other month is just too much. I have a real life I need to focus on.

Yep, I think my best bet is to wait til end of December, and then take my pick. Once I get whatever it is that Verizon decides to present, I'll be done with forums and tech news for the next couple of years.

There is always going to be something "bigger, better and faster". It doesn't stop. It's a machine that spews these new things that are outdated in 2 months.

I can't be devoting so much time and energy to researching all this crap.

So, by all means, take your time Motorola, for your Droid Bubonic. I'm not sure I care anymore.
