spam after joining forum

Hello everybody,
I just joined the forum, which is great and very useful, but as soon as I signed up I started to receive spam. I'd managed to keep my address spam free for a year or so and don't think I've given my email to anybody else recently.
Do you think the occurrences are linked or is it just bad timing?

And if anybody wants some cheap pharmaceuticals, let me know

None at all coming to my email address. Not even to the "spam" folder.

I wouldn't doubt if you're right about the "bad timing." The spam was probably basically on its way before joining here.

Can't be positive when it comes to spam, of course, but I doubt if these folks here provide the email addresses we give them when we join to spammers.

What kinda spam is it?

Its spam advertising online pharmaceticals - normally saying 'Good discount!!!' but from a variety of addresses and different products each time.

Since the day I joined the forum I've been getting 2 a day.

I also doubt that the two events are connected, it just seems coincidental as I'm pretty cautious about where I give that email address to. Still, realistically, it could have been caused by almost anything I guess...

i think there has been an overall spike in spam on the internet the last few weeks, i have seen quite an uptick in my inbox as well.
