I've been reading the threads on all things root and have a couple questions. I think I'd like to root but I also like the way my stock bolt operates, and I've had it since the release date. Since the latest OTA pretty much everything works great on the phone, so I don't really want to experiment with different roms that may or may not have issues here or there. At least not yet. I want to stay as stock as possible. Mainly, I'd like to keep the updated system and keep the same Sense UI. I'd like to get rid of the bloatware, adjust the external speaker output, and probably change the kernel to get better performance but not negatively affect battery life, which I find to be just fine as is. I wouldn't mind improving it, of course. I'd like to be able to backup app data so that I could wipe my phone but not lose progress in my games(which is the only reason I haven't wiped after each OTA). When the next OTA comes out I'd like to able to update to it somehow(when a root version becomes available, of course), as long as it doesn't break more than it helps. Basically just be as stock as possible but gain some of the advantages of rooting. Maybe down the road I could get more adventurous with different roms that change much more of the phone and the UI. So is that possible and, if so, what would the steps be?
Again, I'd like to:
1. Root, but keep stock system update and stock Sense UI with all it's widgets,
2. improve performance with a different kernel,
3. adjust external speaker volume,
4. remove non-htc bloatware
5. be able to backup app data so I can wipe phone without losing game progress.
