Johannes,
Thank you for posting this here on AF. It is a very interesting article that you've written.
I've got two apps in the Market (really four, since I have a free version and a donate version of each
).
My first app, AFV (Android File Verifier), was written to learn Android programming and to give back to the Android community, especially the root users who need to (should) check their MD5 sums and file integrity of the files they download and flash.
My second app, BattMonX, was done as a user request / challenge (LOL) from a moderator here at AF. Its been a fun project, but I have spent an inordinate amount of time updating and debugging this app compared to AFV.
My money-making "strategy" for these first two forays is / was basically non-existent since I only created the donate versions at the request of many of my users who wanted to show their appreciation.
Since my apps are not games and don't have a lot of "face time", if you will, adding advertising to the apps seemed inappropriate and probably not worth the effort.
I do look forward to someday creating an app that will make me a few dollars to help pay for my Android "hobby" (i.e., different phones and tables to develop for and play on
) and I very much appreciate the information you provided in your posted link.
Cheers!
