Help A few questions.

Firstly I've rarely used a smart phone = noob.

hence a few genuine doubts.

Firstly,

1. I don't like the present sms app (which is the default app)
My concern is that If I delete the app will I not be able to receive a text?
Which is the best sms app available?
If I delete the default sms app is there any way I can retrieve it?

2. I don't like the Contacts tab either, is there a better one available?
how do we create new groups?

3. Every time I open the browser my phone freezes.

Handcent , Chomp or Gosms .I use Chomp but it's really a personal choice .Community is divided between the three

If you delete the app you will recieve sms but you will need another sms app to reread them .just backup mms.apk from /system/app folder or better backup the whole /system/app folder incase you ever delete any app.You can Use Gearloose adb manager to back it all up .

2.GoContacts is a replacement Dialer .Never used it though
Creating group in default option is pretty simple.In dialer Contact ->Groups -> left click -> create
Easy as 123

3.)Install another browser like Dolphin HD or Opera .Most probably corrupted Browser .apk.Attached the normal one if you want default browser.
Just reinstall the browser.

Yes ,it's better when you are messing with system apps to have a back up .Or wait for a day or 2 I will upload my backup of the 551 system

Go dev team has a reputaion of of one of the best Launcher/Apps .The review are quite good but I have no need for a dialer app .I am quite happy with the standard one

The real question is how did you plan to remove the standard app without rooting ?
I will back up my archive since many people delete apps they have no knowledge off .Just disable the notifications of sms app .No need for removing it for now .

I haven't removed my app yet. I'm slowly running out of space too.

I'm your slave for the time being. Will do as you order.

if possible put it in the form of steps. Don't know how to deactivate the default msg app. I want something better than that. So, how to do it?

System apps cant be deleted without advanced techniques which Voids the warranty .(Rooting)
The best thing is sit tight and dont backup anything .Get a feel of the phone for a month . Post your doubts at the forum . Then you can try backing apps and deleting apps .Learn the basics of the phone .

you dont actually disable it .In the message app ,Let click -->settings -->Last option .Disable notifications.Simple
