Root How to ROOT DHD with ROM 2.50.405.2

I've been searching the internet for an answer to how to root my DHD 2.3 gingerbread with ROM 2.50.405.2 for about 3 hours, now I need your help. How can I root my device? I've tried SuperOneClick, but it stalls/freezes at "Running GingerBreak" and just Loops over and over again.

Ive also tried AMT installing gingerbreak v1.2 apk to my dhd, but the rooting process never stops there either. So what to do?

Use the downgrade method then root.

(typing a response while eating fish and chips is not a good idea, especially with greasy hands, hence my limited response)

thx for the guide - d'ya have any leads on what to do if, when trying to temproot, the scan stops at a certain sector?

Wait until it completes. If it takes too long, restart ur phone and try again

For me it didn't work. I couldn't temp root, check the sticky forum above why... apparently I have to reset my phone but I refuse to do it until I have backed up my data, which you can't do until you are root.

Although it's a pain that you can't back up before rooting... there are apps that allow you to back up SMS/MMS messages, you can back up numbers, etc by using Gmail - when you root, I guess you'll be installing custom roms... in which case, you'll have to set up the phone to how you want it anyway - It's well worth the hassle!
