Official Bionic Release Date Thread

I have been very patently waiting for this phone. My og Droid is going quickly (I have to fc app every 20 minute just to get my launcher to display, and this is the second time I have had to type this because I got a phone call and this was gone when I came back to it) I have greatly appreciated trolling through this site getting updates and reading speculation about what the bionic would be. My fall back phone has been the D3 (I was not sure if I would like the 4.3, 4.5 was a deffinet deal breaker for me) I do live in a good 4th area and I was excited to be ahead of the tech curve with the speed of LTE, as I was when I bought my Droid in November of 09. I am so fed up with Motorola #@%4ing around with this phone that I don't even want to give them my money for a D3. Not sure where this post is going, I just needed to vent.

This frustration level must be getting to me too -- just started googling the Nexus Prime. Sweet! Wonder if Android 4.0 has anything in particular worth waiting for.

"Jha confirmed the September time frame for the Droid Bionic but also adds that they have at least one other 4G LTE smartphone planned for this year."

That probably means September of 2012 right?

I'm done waiting for the bionic. I don't think I'll get it. By the time the bionic is out, a month or so later there will be a 1.5 Ghz Dual-Core + phone.

I'm gonna just wait for one of those.

I might still consider getting Bionic in September if Function turns out to be 3G phone. I'm getting Tab 10.1 soon anyway and I need a good LTE phone to tether to it through bluetooth. According to Tab forum here Motorola phones seem to work well with Tab 10.1 for tethering interestingly. So if Function doesn't have 4G and Bionic has reliable LTE with battery life on par with Charge at least, I might be getting Bionic. I know that's couple of big "IF" though.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

If you want the best LTE phone to date, I would get the bionic. It will be here in Sept. Book it!

wow, such confidence, "booking" September only after half the world knows that the Moto CEO confirmed it today.

YodaDroid, you keep talking like you know something, on this and other threads, but you haven't actually revealed anything of substance. Obviously you could reveal anything substantial if you wanted to, if you really knew anything, with total anonymity. Unless your real name is Yoda Droid, which I highly doubt.

You can call me Yoda.

Everything you want to know about the droid bionic, you already know.

The Specs of Galaxy S II are already known. Keep in mind that VZW 3G is CDMA. Different tests needed to get it working on than it requires in rest of world.

Plus, VZW not super happy to be 2nd fiddle to rest of world. Guess who's going to get marketing push?

The question is, why are you still asking?

I found out a couple days ago that Verizon will allow me to upgrade now at the discounted price if I sign a new 2 year contract. My 20 months comes next march of 2012, because I bought my "X" on launch day. The advantage of waiting until next march is Verizon will also give me an additional "Loyalty" discount. They didn't specify the dollar amount of that discount though. Probably $50 to $100 as it's taking the place of the NE2 program. (I'm guessing)

So, if I go for the Bionic, (whenever it's released) I will probably go with the full price because if the Dinara or something even better is available next March 15th, I will use my upgrade and discounts at that time. Then sell the Bionic to recoup some of the cost.

I'm in no hurry for any of this to happen as my Droid X is treating me just the best.

Patiently/Impatiently waiting for something/anything to happen......

Sorry, but this just confirms you don't know what you're talking about. Yes, the SGSII specs are known.

For the Europe version.

The CDMA Verizon version hasn't even passed through the FCC yet. There is absolutely NOTHING known about it. We know more about the elusive Bionic's specs than the SGSII.

And give me a link that says specifically and officially from Moto's mouth what the Bionic's specs are.

The question is, why are you still asking?

And this just confirms that you're looking for a flame war.

Too bad.

Every single thing he says we already know/heavily suspect so he is just hedging his odds.

If something comes out differently he will probably claim he was just joking.

Besides, who says 'book it' after every freaking post these days?

There is no planned 1.2 GHZ or 1.5 GHZ LTE phone planned for at least 2 months from the release of Bionic.

I would suggest getting the bionic if you are looking for the first great LTE phone. Nothing coming close enough on the heels of it from other vendors.

What about the Nexus Prime which is hinted to be coming out in December?

Right. That's what I'm really thinking about. The Nexus Prime would have a lot going for it, given that it's going to be getting all the updates first from Google. That's got to be worth something. Also, I think I heard somewhere that it has an unlocked bootloader, (I'm talking about previous Nexus phones), so it would be rootable almost immediately. That, with almost no bloatware (if any), probably Ice Cream Sandwich, and top of the line processor and screen specs, and that might be the one to get me through 2 years.

Thank goodness my OG droid has no problems. I can hold out.

I'm either gonna get the SGS2 or just wait for HTC to release a dual core LTE device. I love Sense.

The only way I would get a Bionic is if it has killer battery life and performance. It needs to be blazing fast like the SGS2 is for me to consider it.

I prefer the Moto devices (or SGS2) since provide 12.5 gb of extra built-in media storage. The HTC devices tend to have no extra internal storage and then block the sd card behind the battery, so no hotswap.

That is one cool thing about the D3, since has the 12.5gb and the sd card can be hotswapped. D3 is the most stable and best performing device I have owned or tried, so expect the Droid Nukem (Bionic) to be even better.

Still, the SGS2 should have the same features, but maybe no 4G...

Motorola Solutions, Inc. - UPDATE: Motorola Mobility Reports Strong 2Q But Weak 3Q View

This link gives a couple of quotes from Moto's CEO about why it took so long. Bottom line, they developed their own 4g chips so that they could make some profit from it. If they license it to other manufacturers, they can make a ton of money. On the one hand, it sounds promising, because if they spent so much time on it, then it is probably a good chip, meaning it's smaller, uses less battery power, and is more reliable (otherwise, how could they sell it to other manufacturers over the current tech?)

On the other hand, I still don't think it will make a difference in my decision. The other specs (processor speed, crappy qHD screen instead of Super AMOLED Plus, etc.) are either the same as every other phone that is coming out soon, or even slightly behind.

Wait a second. How do we all know samsung is going to release the Fuction on verizon in Aug? There has not been a SGII verizon version that went through FCC that we can report about. So why get all up in arms. Yes we have waited long time for this phone, but I rather have them perfect the phone the best they can before releasing it. Think about it LTE is new technology so Moto is trying to get good battery life plus give us a duel core phone. No other company wanted to venture to do this. All they wanted to do is give us a phone on LTE and be done with it. They put hardly any effort in it and gave us 2010 phones. HTC Thunderbolt is exactly like the Evo with just a few different tweaks. So as I say just wait and stop bitching about the wait. Maybe we will be surprised when the thing is released.
