WiMAX speeds/spectrum difference?

Ok, so I noticed on here it says that the Photon covers 2.5-2.7 GHz. IIRC my EVO only said 2.5 on the box. Has anyone been running any speed tests? Has it showed an improvement in speed and connection strength compared to the earlier 4G phones?

I also saw on sprints website they said you can et up to 30 MB/s which seems like if they arent even breaking 10 they are opening themselves up for a lawsuit for false advertisement.

I know your kidding, read around, sprint can barely get up to 1mbs most places. I get .5 mbs here.

My Epic has only seen up to 1.7 mb/s in Oakland, CA. Unfortunately most of the time Wimax plugs along at less than 1. And Wimax cuts in and drops out all the time making Wimax almost useless for streaming video.

I was hoping that Wimax would be more consistent and faster on the Photon. Well, maybe it's just that Sprint's Wimax totally sucks.

Not trying to be a dick, but your first comment, in response to the OP's 4G question, made it seem like Sprint could "barely get up to 1mbs most places." Sucks that you don't have 4g service where you're at.

As for me, my house is a blackhole for Sprint service. Airave all the way at home, but in the Tysons Corner are of VA I was seeing 3-4 Mbps. Not exactly barn burner speeds, but fast enough to download an app, stream music, and access my email.

OK, thanks. I thought it was just me. It seems like the Sprint 4g network is highly inadequate in the techie havens Bay Area. This is a huge fail on Sprint's part.

I have friends who are using Verizon and they have better 3g speeds than I do on Sprint 3g and on Sprint 4g.

Sprint dropped the ball on their network in the Bay Area.

The original OP brought up 2.5Ghz spectrum so he was asking about 4G, not 3G speeds.

Yeah, sprint has work to do on their 4G network. They only had that crappy 2.5Ghz spectrum available to deploy wimax... and 2.5Ghz is very susceptible to interference from physical structures. That's one of the reasons why they inked a deal with lightsquared to try and move to LTE in the 800mhz spectrum. There are issues with the spectrum lightsquared is planning to use but it's a step in the right direction.

Hopefully sprint can quickly move the iden network to the CDMA frequencies and use that spectrum for LTE. Only time will tell.

I'm getting pretty decent speeds in Alpharetta, GA. Pretty impressive, twice as fast as T-Mobile's 4G in the same area.
