Hey everybody! Im moving to the UK in a month, and unfortunately my Motorola Droid X will not work there. So, in researching what phones are available on the O2 and Vodaphone networks, I see this phone is the best option. Is this correct?

How does everyone like this phone? After having a smartphone, I do not want to go back to a dumb phone. I see HTC makes the other high priced phone over there, does this phone beat that phone?

Im looking for user opinions on this phone. Would you buy it again, or try a different one? Which network would you chose? Ill be going to Durham University, if coverage there matters.

I use my phone all the time. Email, facebook, twitter, linkedIn, Google+, taking pictures, alarm, gps, taking notes, basically everything in my life! haha. So, I need a phone that can handle all of these things.

If you have any questions or need further info, let me know! But I want to get this figured out before I get over there because I will be really busy when I arrive.

Many thanks for all the help in advance mates!!

I can't speak as to how the device will perform in Europe. I know that here, in Canada, on my network, it is very fast and smooth.
Call and voice quality are above average.
Display resolution is among the best you can right now.
The HD camera experience is superb!
The design is currently unparalleled as it is the thinnest smartphone with a 4.3 screen.
I'd repurchase this all over again given the chance.
I think over 3 million devices sold within the first 55 days of launch, speaks volumes.
Best of luck
Cheers,

Cheers,

This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!

I absolutely love my DroidX because of the 8mp camera, and the HD videos it takes are amazing! It is always smooth, it does have a couple glitches but nothing that takes away from the phone experience.

I am hoping to find a phone that can take its place, and I thought it would be hard. But after all my research on this samsung phone, I think I may have found it's European counterpart. :) That makes me happy.

Im debating whether I should buy the screen protector and TPU case here where they are cheap and hope I dont decide on a different phone over there. haha.

It is an unbelievable device the only issue with me is battery life and Kies is just hell to use other then that it is a great phone

Battery life is shit on my DROID X as well, but I purchased an extended battery which helped. Is this an option for the charge??

And what is this kies stuff?? I see lots of problems with this word on here..

hi and welcome to england.
you will love this phone,i just hope you will love my country just as much!!!
the best deal i could find was £25 per month for a 2 year contract,900 mins talk time,500 texts and fair usage data.hand set cost £99.that was with t mobile via their web page or give them a call.dont go in store.
your going to durham?!? take some warm clothes.

like I stated, I've already lived in the UK quite a bit, and I love it! That's why im coming back for my masters degree. Since I'll only be in school for a year ill have to go for the 1 year contract. I have a friend in england on the O2 network so I'm hoping to get on a contract with him...

Well I bought the phone about 2 weeks ago now and very impressed with it. I had the HTC Desire before it and I really like the HTC Sense interface so I was a little blind going into the Touch-Wiz setup, but really its not too bad at all, I have got used to it now and wouldn't turn back at all.
I had a problem( I won't bore you with the details) but its being replaced this week.
I am on O2 and on my previous contract I was on 600 minutes with unlimited texts but no data for

24 month contract here, anything less and the cost of the phone would go up, I am sure there are better deals out there but O2 is pretty good in my area. You could just pay the contract off before you return also ;)

Hmm, how much would the contract payoff be? Whatever the monthly remaining amount is? Cuz if it is cheaper than the 199 pound phone price, it would be wise to just do that! And then if I stay more than 12 months I still get that benefit of having a phone contract. I never thought of that... thank you for the idear!!

i cant comment about network performance or which network i'd choose.. but the phone itself is outstanding. the best smartphone ive used. its fast, its light, its slim.. the screen is big (which is a good thing for me) .. the stuff u mentioned, email/fb/twitter/g+ work great. well, apps like facebook are still not as good as they are for iphone yet, blame facebook for that.. the facebook app is decent, but stuff like notifications etc are stil not right up there. they'll get there. its not a problem with this phone, it'll be on any android.. and yes, i'd definitely buy it again :D everything just works, for me.. out of the box. i highly recommend it!

If you haven't already made your mind up I'll add my 2c also.

Background: Since 2007 I have owned about 6 high end smartphones a year (Symbian, Windows, Android), and I currently do some writing for Clove Technologies in the UK. I think the SGSII is overall unequivocally the finest smartphone ever made, bar none. There will be certain individuals for whom other phones may be better for their particular use (for example people demanding the best cameras, and for whom everything else is quite secondary should get an N8), but for the vast majority you cannot do better than this phone at the present time.

I think you'll love the phone. So much so that I hope you have a liitle time between purchasing it and commencement of your course, otherwise your studies will be compromised by studying all the wonderful things you can do with the SGS2 instead :D

I think the phone is phenominal, especially the screen and multi-media capability. I'm sure you''ll be happy with one. Good luck in your adventure.

I've come from o2 on a Nexus One to Vodafone on the S2 - night and day difference for me in terms of coverage.

Google UK mobile phone coverage - there's a site which brings the coverage maps for all of the major UK mobile providers on there. I've found it's fairly accurate.

In terms of the phone, I miss the trackball from the N1 for editing text, but TouchWiz hasn't really got in the way for me. I only used Kies to check for a software update when I first had the phone, not been near it since.
The screen is a joy to use, and after the N1 issues in daylight, it's so nice to be able to actually read it! The fact the S2 has the noise cancelling as well like my N1 is welcome too.
Another annoying niggle is that maps when the phone's docked in the car charger don't go into "night mode".

My phone's protected under insurance so never had screen protector (remember the sammy has gorilla glass), just got the Samsung leather pouch/case thing - simple but does the job.
