Does Anyone Else Hate Their Epic?

Sprint kool-aid? You do know you're talking to a guy taking his $2500/mo Sprint account to Tmob. And I'm running the EG22 leak of gingerbread for the Epic now. So someone is working on it, and considering Sprint has officially said it's coming your post has you living under a rock for the past couple months. So maybe you should take a few sips of reality, step into the present and forget about the Kool-Aid. That's Kool with a K.

and for the people bitching about the length of time its taking in one way, shape or form, you're always going to find a reason to bitch. It's taking too long. If they released it too early you'd complain about the bugs and how they rushed it out the door. After seeing many releases from most of the mfg's have issues, I could care less how long it takes. I'm just happy there's a source throwing us leaked builds to play with in the meantime.

Heck, one guy is whining about wanting Ice Cream. That's not even worth a comment.

Your moving to T mobile? I guess your rant means nothing to me if that's the case.
Goodluck with that.... spelled t h a t....LOL

name one major android update from any mfg on any phone that was bug free at release regardless of the time frame from when it was announced...

And it doesn't matter to me what means anything to you. It's not my fault you don't know how to spell Kool-Aid.

If you're not happy with the phone, go get something else. ebay is your friend.

That's just it. People use an excuse like Sprint is trying to make sure there's no bugs. So it really does not matter when they release a new update there will be bugs. Why prolong the release if it is so?
Sometimes bugs get fixed faster when the public is involved thorugh our input.

cool-aid or Kool-aid, You drank it once and it must have been good cuz you keep coming back for more....LOL

Good Luck and happy T Moblin....

I was more of a Hawaiian Punch kinda guy. :)

The move isn't definite yet. I'm still playing with phones, checking service, data speeds and all that. Not happy their premier slider is the 4g slide. It's a nice phone, but dual core and a nice camera do not a premier slider make. To me, the Droid 3 and Epic are the only premier sliders out there. Not just going to move the company account because the guy says I'll save you $6k a year. I have to listen to people bitch and complain on top of doing my job so I'm not rushing into it, and I'm certainly not switching when I can only download at 512kb speeds at my house and my overdrive and epic are around 5mb.

and there's bugs you catch and bugs you don't. there are ones that are simply deal breakers for a release and some that are minor enough that can be handled by a maintenance update soon down the road. Battery drains, force closes, freezes, reboots, broken core apps and such (just throwing a few things out there). Certain things the masses won't tolerate, and just imagine the backlash for some of those basic things. And until you've actually beta tested a product (or firmware) (and I have a few times), you really don't know what goes into it, the crap you have to test, retest, reproduce, get confirmation it reproduces, get a new build, repeat, and so on and so on. It's not even fun after a while. You fix one problem and break another. So to hear people whine about release dates just gets annoying.

If you have so many issues either a) get a different phone or b) just root the damn thing. It is incredibly easy and is broken down step by step in many threads and on video walkthroughs. Even the technologically declined can figure it out if they just take a moment to read. Even the argument of "i shouldn't have to root to get x, y and z" gets annoying after a while. Heck, even the Apple crowd has to jailbreak to get functionality they want even if many consider it basic.

The dismissive attitude of people who love their Epics gets irritating after a while. I've been asked to post my issues and use the responses to "fix" issues as if I've never thought of doing that or haven't done it. Then there is this whole, well if you don't like it, just get another phone. Really? I am doing just that. I still get to complain about a device that I paid $249 to get that hasn't performed well for me. Just because a phone works well for you and you've never had issues with it doesn't mean that people who complain about issues they are having with the same phone are merely complainers who don't really know what they are talking about. I've had two Epics. Both have been a pain in my rump. I've worked hard to try to "fix" issues on both of them through getting advice through many different channels and still, I'm frustrated with this device.

And it gets old hearing, "Well, why don't you root? That will fix everything." and "It's annoying to hear people talking about expecting that the phone should work as it should right out of the box without having to root."

Fine, you have your opinion. I have mine. I believe that when a corporation or corporations put out a high tech device that it should work as promised out of the box. I didn't pay my money to get a phone riddled with bugs that I have to work to fix on my own.

And it gets old hearing, "Well maybe an iPhone would be better for you. Good luck with that." That's just insulting. There is a reason I don't have an iPhone. I've tried it and I didn't like it at all. It has its own issues. I like Android phones better.

So, I'm not some whiney young twit who is completely uneducated and tech ignorant. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that a product should work as promised out of the box and that OTA updates shouldn't completely mess up your phone.

I could root, sure. No it's not difficult. I am tech savvy enough to do at least that (and so much more, even though I'm a ripe old 41). Saying that, I still don't think I should be forced to root in order to fix problems that Samsung and Sprint created and can't or won't fix. And I've never heard that rooting fixes the GPS issues or the issue requiring the "airplane mode fix."

So, I'm happy that all of you Epic lovers are incredibly happy with your Epics. I'm not so happy that you are so dismissive of other people's experiences that aren't so positive with your favorite phone. I expected better behavior from people in the Android community. Some of you sound no better than iPhone fanboys. I'm just sayin'.

My Epic is not without it's annoying glitches. For example there is a huge lag in screen rotation (like 60 sec.) when you open the keyboard and nothing seems to fix the problem. Believe me, I have tried everything except rooting and installing a new rom. I imagine that GB will fix this issue. If not, then I will root. I would have done so anyway after the release of GB since I don't believe there will be further updates to these phones.

I just took a look at my Running Services settings and it looks like Android.iqd is running on mine too. It says it is the "Android System" and also has something to do with "San Service" whatever that is. All I can tell ya is the app is running on mine and not chewing up the battery if that helps...probably not.

All in all when you think of all the electronic devices this smartphone has replaced (and has done it pretty well overall I think), I can't complain too much. The smartphone technology is finally getting to the point of being relevant and things will only get better with devices going forward. Besides, up to this point, is there any smartphone that has worked flawlessly "right out of the box" and "as advertised"? It seems they have all had their problems to some extent.

Have you tried calibrating the phone upside down? Go to settings, display, calibrate, then press calibrate and quickly turn the phone upside down and lay it on a flat surface. Let it sit upside down for a few seconds, then test the rotation speed.

It seems there are many people who have high hopes for GB, and that it will fix all of your problems. I, on the other hand, am not so optimistic.

considering some glitches people post are not common or reproducible on other's phones, part of the problem could lie in the phone itself and you might have a bit of a lemon. So if you troubleshoot and still have the problem, then take it to Sprint and get a different phone. Odds are they won't be able to fix it either. Many of their techs aren't the brightest in the bunch to begin with and can order a new phone if they can't figure out a solution. And I mean new as in refurb, but new to you.

Ugh, really?

See my last post above. And my other posts.

If a phone bugs a person much, regardless of what phone it is, perhaps that person should move on to another phone.

Life is too short to deal with something you hate.

This is not directed at any phone as all phones have their pros and cons.

What's great for you or me may not be suitable for someone else.

I have done the calibration both ways...screen up and down. Still has the problem. The phone didn't have the problem before Froyo. 2.1 rotation worked flawlessly. This problem only happens on the home screen and began when 2.2 landed ota on my phone. I also hate the Froyo checkerboard. That is why I have to believe a fresh OS with GB will hopefully fix my problem and others.

IMO 2.1 was much more stable than 2.2 but slower. Hopefully GB will be a good balance of the two.

Seriously though. Are there any perfect smartphones out there? I don't recall reading about any. Maybe that will all change within a month or so. Pun intended.

Bring your phone to the store and get it replaced. It is not Android that is doing this to you. Are you using a custom launcher?

Then I will take it over there this week and see what happens. I Will report back the outcome. A referb. that worked well would be fine for me. I am then due for an upgrade in January.

Good luck. I hope it works out for you.

I got two lemons, it would seem. Perhaps it's just bad luck for Samsung phones for me. I've decided to upgrade 9/1 as I've mentioned in more than a few posts.

Sincerely, I hope this works out for you. Most people seem to really like this phone.

I just want to thank the other posters who have posted about their negative experiences with this phone. I was starting to feel like I was the only one. Thanks for the support.

Just an update on my situation. I took the phone to a repair center and they said it was the fault of the OTA firmware delivery of Froyo. They have had lots of problems with the updates and the fix is to re-flash the firmware. Did that and this phone just screeeeemmms now. No lag whatsoever and a major difference in the browser...no more checkerboard. I should have got more specifics on the exact procedure he used to reflash. All I know is the phone is 100% better. Wish I would have done this a long time ago. Very glad to clean everything out of this phone right before GB.

Considering the official gingerbread release is right around the corner

Hopefully "right around the corner" does not mean the same thing that it meant for the 6 months prior to the Froyo release.

I'm eligible for upgrade after Oct 1... at this point I'm going to wait and see if the iPhone5 becomes available on Sprint.

Update: Confirmed
