Can't install any more apps! Help!

Hi,

I have a San Francisco/ZTE-Blade (rooted and 2.2) but I seem to have hit a memory wall to the point where it won't let me install any more apps. This is because the internal memory is currently hovering at just over 20mb.

What I don't understand is how this can be when I only have 5 apps currently on the phone itself, all the rest are stored (or have been moved) to the SD card!

The apps I cannot move are Maps, Gmail, Voice Search, Market and 3G Watchdog. All of which I'd like to keep!

I don't understand how, out of 230mb of internal space, these 5 apps can be using up 208mb?!

I assume that's how it works anyway.

I've cleared all caches and moved all apps I can to the card and I'm not sure what to do now!

As I don't have much of a grasp on the inner workings of Android, I'll ask; if I delete some apps that I have stored on the card will this free up any space internally? I DO have quite a lot of apps!

Ideally I'd like to free up about another 10mb of internal space. It's getting very tedious being constantly told that the memory is low but, now it won't even let me download any further apps and I don't want to uninstall the 5 on there, I feel like I've hit something of a wall!

Can anyone explain this or advise, please?

Just to be clear, I HAVE cleared the caches and moved what I can already!

One other thing, out of curiosity, if I were to update to 2.3 sometime soon, would this sort out this problem? I heard that 2.3 allows you to have EVERYTHING installed to the SD card?

Thanks for reading, any advise much appreciated!

In addition to the post(s) above that mention that apps aren't 100% moved to SD you also need to consider that your data uses internal storage as well. Look at what's specifically using your internal storage (there are apps for this) and consider a data cleanup if data is using a large portion of your internal storage.

For some reason data seems to be frequently overlooked.

It's not a pancea. There are still limits with 2.3 and you still need to be mindful of them. You can't just load away and store whatever amount of data you want as space is finite.
