Help Where's the gallery?

I had my phone hooked up to the computer via USB cable, and by using Verizon Media Manager and also Windows Explorer, I deleted some pictures. Went back to the phone later and they were still showing there. I tried to delete them from the phone and the DELETE option was greyed out.

I removed all pictures from my SD card and moved them to my laptop so they are relatively safe now

I used Astro Filemanager, renamed the SD's CAMERA and THUMBNAILS file to CAMERAX and THUMBNAIL X. The gallery would not load. No problem. I took a picture, found a rebuilt CAMERA folder with the one picture in it, and a rebuilt THUMBNAIL folder with a couple of things in it, so I deleted the renamed "X" versions thinking that would fix things.

Went to the gallery and it shows 503 pictures on the camera roll, and 900+ on the all photos tab. The picture thumbnails don't show up, only a graphic of a picture frame.

Looked in astro file manager again and it only shows the one picture in the camera folder, a short thumbnail folder with pcictures plus a few mail download pictures, and nothing in the spmo folder. Somewhere the system is telling the camera that there are more pictures than there are. Any ideas on where to look?

Thanks!

From what I can tell the gallery prefers to have pics deleted from within the gallery, not from a file explorer.

You can download gallery 3D to see if it can clear up the mess of pic place holders or you can go into manage applications - all, find media storage, and clear data, then reboot the device.

When it comes back, go into the gallery, it will say no pics, but then start to populate.

your gallery will automatically find every picture on the phone...not just the ones in a specific folder..

if the gallery is still showing pictures...then you did not delete them from the sdcard properly

I'm not sure what deleting them properly consists of, but they are not on the sd card anymore, at least not in the DCIM/Camera folder.

can you actually look at the pictures? or are the previews in the gallery just there??...

Initially, when I started out after deleting through windows, the thumbnails showed up but if you clicked on one, no picture. Then, I deleted the camera and thumbnail folder, and the pictures were not there, the thumbnails weren't there, but there was a sort of icon of a picture where each thumbnail had been.

Check the next message though, it's fixed!

Thanks for your time!!

Lesson learned on the deletions!

I took your advice on clearing the data from the application manager and it worked. Thanks a lot for that suggestion. Anything I need to be careful of moving slected pictures back onto the droid x from the laptop? Will explorer work OK for that? I loaded pictures that way on my wife's Droid and it went well.

Thanks again for your time!!

You can load the pics any way you want, it just seems picky as to how you delete them.
