Official Bionic Release Date Thread

I have no idea what the NFL schedule has to do with this, but since you bring it up, according to the NFL web site, the 2011 season begins Sep 8, with the first game scheduled for 8:30 P.M. EDT. Claiming that a post NFL-season-start release contradicts the official claims... that's...

I'm just trying to point out that Summer to most people is June through August, picnics, boating, hotdogs, fireworks, etc.

When someone says their kids are going to be on "summer" vacation soon, no one stops and asks "Oh, really, and when in September are they going to be on vacation?"

Besides, no one can tell me that Moto didn't announce this back in January for a Q2 release. So yep, that's lying!! ;)

Look, honestly, if Moto had said "Hey everybody, we've been testing the crap out of this device and discovered some bugs that we can't work out and don't want to saddle you with. We've decided, instead, to develop a 4G chip that will be 100% better and will use a lot less energy, not to mention a faster processor and a better screen for you, but it won't be out til end of September", fine! Actually, I think that type of announcement would've garnered a TON of respect AND it would have created the same amount of anticipation. I still would've forgone buying the Charge or Thunderbolt, because I'd figure I'd get a 2nd generation 4G chip with a faster processor.

It's their promise of 2nd quarter and then NOTHING. . . .that's what pisses me (and a lot of other people) off.

Well....they basically said part of that just not in detail when they mentioned delaying it to make enhancements after feedback. IMO that was part spin doctoring too after bugs, issues were founds.

The bugs, issues....that was more from insiders than from Motorola. Its a saving face thing. I guess they felt it was best to say they changed things after feedback from folks after folks were upset after the Atrix came out and compared specs to the Bionic.

I kinda agree....if they woulda said we ran into issues and will have to scrap the orig Bionic and give yall something else....folks probably woulda been more understanding.

You're right. Once they opened their mouth at CES in January, going silent with the whole thing was wrong. People drool over these things, and plan upgrades around release schedules - and when the product fails to materialize with no word from the manufacturer or carrier, those people are left in limbo, possibly having missed a great promotional price on an alternate choice in the meantime. It's a difficult situation for customers to be in.

At CES, in January, the Bionic was "announced" for a Q2 release. So yes, there was an announcement of a release.

Please don't preach to me if you really haven't been following the Bionic from the beginning.
__________________________________
Not preaching but the annoncement was from Motorola, not Verizon.

And the verbage in the announcement was,

"As we mentioned, pricing is still unknown, but availability should be around Q2 of this year"

The important key words here are "availability should be" This is a far cry from a promise or solid release date. Got this info here, from cnet:

I'm just saying that all this blaming of Verizon is misplaced. Don't you think if Motorola delivered the phones ready for sale, Verizon would sell them? Verizon makes money selling phones and servicing same. They don't make any money until this happens.

I say again, Verizon never promised to release the Bionic in Q2. They don't do that. I'm not saying it wasn't a target though.

And please, I'm not "preaching".... just trying to make the points supporting my side of this discussion, just the same as I assume you are doing. Don't take these discussions personally, just healthy discussion of the topic regarding the Bionic release.

Believe my, I'm looking forward to the Bionic as much or more than you. I'm waiting for a great LTE phone for use here in Honolulu, now that Verizon has "lit up" Hawaii with 4G.

I remain, Patiently/Impatiently waiting for the Bionic release.

My final new every 2 upgrade is in September... lucky me. I also have the original Droid phone, although mine seems to be holding up well.

So what are the specs on this thing? I've seen different things posted. What is it lacking? Some users are posting that the screen is not the latest technology and that the processor is also slower than other phones. Is this true?

Thanks.

I think that the general feeling HAS been directed towards Moto, not Verizon. At least in my case. I actually love Verizon. I think it's a little pricey, but not much more than anyone else, and my coverage is excellent. My unlimited data, I've found, really IS unlimited, and I love that they allowed us to be grandfathered in, instead of switching us to tiered like new customers.

Yes, I do think that 90% of Verizon store reps have no idea what they're talking about regarding phones and specs, and yes, I do think that's deplorable.

Having said that, any delays or bugs in phones or software has nothing to do with them. They're just pushing product.

So, IF I get the Bionic and I bring it in because the battery is lasting only 4 hours and the phone is overheating like crazy and that freaking ugly Motoblur is making my dual core 1 GHz processor act like a single core 500 MHz phone, I MIGHT bring it in just so I can swap it for another Bionic, but I won't be asking them anything else. Why?

1. They wouldn't know what to say except "Hmm, that's weird, no one else's Bionic is acting that way."

2. It's not their fault.

Not scrapped, just officially delayed.

The CEO of Motorola said the Bionic will be released in September. No actual date specified though.

Hope it's a great phone....

It's a totally different shaped phone. We have to send back all of the original cases we ordered because they are junk to us, because they are not even close to the shape new bionic.

I don't. But I'm not expecting it to have LTE, so I'm pretty much counting on the Bionic. If the SGS2 beats it out of the gate and does have 4G, then I'll be bout it, bout it. Just please, one phone get here. Mine blows.

lol Agreed. 4G is a pretty big must for me. If both have LTE, it'll be whichever drops first most likely. Although that superamoled+...

"The delay was due to network interaction problems with MMI's protocol stack, but in general MMI is executing well and should continue to do so,"Jha said in June.

In English?

That is fancy talk for Tegra 2 and the Qualcomm LTE chip did not get along.

Moto decided to move Targa ahead and call it the Bionic.

The current LTE chips are 45nm fabrication, but by mid next year are expected to be 28nm. This should help with power, size and heat issues.
