Over there <points>
It'd be advantageous to list our favorite root apps so new people (to rooting) know what they can do. Some apps have free or paid versions. Sometimes paid versions are just for donations, sometimes you get more features for 'donating'.

SuperUser Elite:
This is a more advanced version of SuperUser that gives advanced logging and pin protection. Good for us paranoid types.
SuperSU:
This new version of SuperUser, from Chainfire, gives more options than SuperUser. It has interesting features, like unroot and can even temporarily unroot, and some security upgrades.
SuperSU Pro:
Gives more advanced options than normal SuperSU. Including an OTA survival option.
BusyBox:
Many root apps need the tools contained in BusyBox. A good thing to install right off the bat.
Adfree:
God, I've missed this. This installs a hosts file into your Android system that prevents the phone from loading ads.
MyBackup Root:
A backup program for your apps, data, contacts, etc. Simple to use, but not as feature laden as Titanium Backup.
Titanium Backup:
The infamous Titanium Backup makes backups of your apps and the data contained within them. This means you can back up your Angry Birds progress, high scores, among other things, like settings. Also allows you to freeze apps (with purchased version). Freezing is like putting apps on pause. Useful for bloatware you may want to use in the future. Highly recommend getting paid version.
ES File Explorer:
An all in one file explorer, including a root explorer. Completely free.
Root Explorer:
You're going to want this, eventually, if you plan on making any changes to the directories. Like boot animations and other mods. This is a pay-only app.
Autostarts:
Prevents apps from auto loading when certain conditions are met. The primary one being when the device boots. But there are more conditions than that. Definitely worth a buck if you want to stop apps from auto loading.
LBE Privacy Guard:
An advanced privacy program that can block internet requests, contact request, locations, etc from apps that you don't want to have them. Easy to use
DroidWall:
A firewall for Android. Prevents certain apps from using the network without turning the network off.
Permissions Denied:
Deny permissions to selected apps (user installed ones only, not system apps). Be careful, though: Restricting permissions may cause the app to behave oddly or force close.
MSL Reader:
Get your MSL code so you can change phone settings in ##DATA# and other places.
Webkey:
This app allows you to control your phone through a browser. I've never used it, and personally wouldn't trust access to my phone to a website, but the option is available if you want it.
Boot Manager / Boot Manager Lite:
Allows your device to have multiple ROMs installed on your SD card so that you can try new ROMs or have a multi boot like configuration for your phone. Your phone must be S-OFF for this to work properly. Will not work with HBOOT 1.5.
CacheMate:
Allows you to quickly clear out the system caches. Use this if you think your phone is responding sluggishly.
Chainfire 3D:
Hate how nVidia chips (the Tegra 2, specifically) get game exclusives? Chainfire seeks to rectify that. Unknown if it actually works for the 3vo so far. Don't let the 3D in the name fool you, this does not use the parallax barrier to make games utilize our glasses-free 3D effect. It just makes Tegra2 games compatible with our devices (if it works for 3vo).
closeFeint:
If you're like me and hate openFeint with a passion, this app is for you. Disables openFeint from slowing down your games. Deal breaker: Is not compatible with Adfree.
Quick Boot:
Enables you to reboot your phone quickly, including into recovery.
Roam Control:
While technically you didn't have to have root to be able to use this app for HTC devices, some may not be aware of it. Allows you to switch over to the VZW network.
Lite Flow Lite:
Allows you to manually set the behavior of your LEDs.
SetCPU:
The seemingly most preferred CPU manager app out there. Used for overclocking/underclocking and governor modifications.

Roam control. Allows you to force roaming whenever/wherever. I believe it costs 3.99. Not sure, as I bought it awhile ago and it wont tell me a price.

Quick boot. Reboot, shut down, go to recovery, and go to bootloader with one button press. Quick boot is free, quick boot plus is 1.99 and has extra features.

Just curious, for what reason would you want to force roam?

Just curious, for what reason would you want to force roam?

Let's say you get crap Sprint signal at home or work, yet there is a known tower you can roam off of that offers better signal. Roam control allows you to latch onto that roaming tower instead of being forced to stay on the Sprint tower(due to the fact that you still have a Sprint signal, and Sprint takes priority).

Thanks. Roam control does cost $4. It also doesn't require root for HTC devices. Put it up there in case someone wanders in from a different manufacturer, though.

Sprint and Verizon have a roaming agreement. You can force roam onto VZW for no extra cost, if need be. If you abuse it, Sprint can cancel your service. But there's conflicting testimonials to that.

Roaming internationally would be a very big bill, though.

How does it compare to Titanium?

MyBackup Root has far fewer options and is far less of a power tool.

However - if you want something that will back up (and allow batch restore) of all your apps (+/- data) as well as bookmarks, SMS, and so forth.

Not shown in this screen is Contacts -

They sell an add-on called MyToolbox that makes it more Titanium-like, adding cache cleaner and freeze and so forth.

I like to recommend it, especially for new rooters, because as a free tool, it gives you an unlimited number of backups, not just one, and has a super-simple interface to protect settings, and that other stuff. Show of hands - how many people on their first use of Titanium lost that stuff? (me)

Search on Paradise Island in the Market, plenty of stuff there.

I think you missed the thread you wanted - this is for rooting the Evo 3D.

Tell me where you meant to post and I'll move it for you.

I think he was referencing post #3.

I don't think I would link a game cheat app here. Doesn't feel like it meets the spirit of the thread. Even if root is required to use it. Besides:

Switching gears: I may even try MyBackupRoot, then. I have been an off-and-on user of TB and still don't know how to fully use it.

So Titanium Backup only lets you do 1 backup in the free version? It doesnt say that on mine?

Wow, what do I do with all these little .apk s in my sd card TB folder? do they have all my saved info in there with them from the app?

I haven't checked lately, but they used to do one free backup at a time only in Titanium - so only backup back in time, at a time, if that makes sense.

Best to stay out of the TB folder - you're hosed if you break anything there.

TB has options to save apps or apps+data - what you chose is what you saved.
