whats Your newest MUST HAVE app?

Thought it would be kinda cool to see what new `must have` Apps are out there now...let's try to keep to ones no older than say 3 months old! + must be essential Apps, ones you use/ play every day, a very short discription would neat to share as well...

Selfishly hoping this thread unearths some really neat Apps for me! Oh and of course for everyone else too!

So here we go...

My one must have new app is called: IMPERIO

I really digg this app right now and am using every day it was only launched a few weeks back, so still a bit of a secret me thinks. It's a remote desktop app, yes there are a few choices out there and this one takes a little bit of set up, but it is really worth it.
If speed, file transfer abilities and sound are what you want to get from your pc to your droid you won't find better. Period.

So which other neat new Apps can I get my hands on people ...?

There's no need for yet another one of these threads. There are countless threads like this that you can update.

Oh, thanks so much for your input talkeshi t ...maybe you would be kind enough to point out one of the countless threads here that includes the intended criteria...?

1. App that is used everyday
2. Apps that are less than 3 months old (only)
3. Choose only 1
4. Provide short run down...

I am sure there are others like me that are not looking for reams of posts about 'blockbuster' apps like Angry Birds or Quick office, but rather the indie really cool less mainstream Apps...

Surely you have one you can give us too talkeshi? Maybe...

Most of us find new apps by searching, participating in the forum, or just trying them out. I'm a bit put off by your request that we do all of the searching for you and give you a list of apps that meet your specific criteria.

There is usually someone starting threads like this every month or so. Those of us that frequent the board get tired of new people coming here asking for lists of all the best apps, so most of us simply stop posting in threads like this. If we find a new cool app, we start a thread to discuss that app specifically.

I agree with Takeshi, and I would encourage you to do some searching and read some of the app review threads to find some new apps that you might not have.

Sheesh, you guys are harsh. Maybe that's why people stop posting in threads?

Having been around for a long time, I am also sick of "favorite app" threads and so I don't click on them. What made me click on this thread was the "NEWEST" angle -- something released in the last three months.

I don't think the OP was suggesting that you go do searches and report back. I think he was providing a thread in which people who have already come across a cool new recent app that was not yet mainstream could share and tell about it.

Isn't that what these forums are about? Sharing knowledge and helping? Bottom line, if you don't like the subject of a thread, it's better not to click on it than to open it just to post that the thread sucks.

Sheesh, you guys are harsh. Maybe that's why people stop posting in threads?

I guess I just felt like his criteria are completely arbitrary, and that there are plenty of other threads where he could find new apps. The only thing new in this thread is the (IMO) useless additional criteria used to restrict what people post.

1) 3 months - Why 3? Why not 4? Limiting it to less than 3 months just screams for "fad" apps that haven't been proven to be useful long term (which contradicts with his second criteria of being a useful essential app). Not to mention that I never actually look at when an app is released on the market, so I don't even know which apps I've downloaded recently that are actually less than 3 months old. So, looking up that info on my apps is effort I don't want to spend.

2) "essential" apps that I use/play every day - First, another contradiction. "Essential" apps are not apps that I "play". Second, if the app is less than 3 months old, how much time would I have to actually use it every day at this point?

3) Choose only 1 - Why? What if I want to share 2? I someone going to kill me if I do?

4) Provide a short run down - Using google or clicking on a Market link too hard for some?

Yeah, maybe I'm being harsh in your eyes, Johnny Cakes. That's your right. However, this is a discussion forum (as you noted) and I'm free to click on any threads I want and express my opinion as long as I'm not violating forum rules. If I came here and said "this thread sucks" that would be a violation of the rules. However, I instead explained some reasons why I believe this thread won't give the OP the results he desires, and some suggestions on how to find new apps using alternative strategies.

Isn't that sort of help what this forum is all about?

Edit: To droidst - this forum might have some app reviews that interest you: http://androidforums.com/application-reviews/

Well I'm really happy about this thread because it might just be really useful to unearth some great apps that I have missed due to a minority of blockbuster apps getting all the focus on stores and forums alike!

droist here is mine...

It is called: QR Droid 4 Beta

It lets you share, your Biz.card, any Contact, Link, Geo-location and more with your Camera

QR Droid lets you use your camera to scan a QR code in a magazine and watch a video immediately. Or you cab create your own QR code from a Contact stored in your phone, let a friend scan it and get that info transferred, pretty neat

By the way I recently found your favourite app and installed it...it is very good, I agree...

Great string to start as well - thanks Droidst

nice idea for a thread. i hate when searching for apps, it only ever gives you the top apps, or the newly released ones.

dont listen to that overanalysing forum whore.

mines is Akinator
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.scimob.akinatorlite&feature=search_result

its basically a 20 questions game where the genie guesses who ur thinking of based on answers you give him to his questions. been using it a lot since i got it but it is actually getting a bit boring now. lol.

dont listen to that overanalysing forum whore.

I'm not calling anyone names on this forum. I would ask that you do the same.

3G Watchdog - to track mobile internet usage and quotas
Astro - File manager
Bookmarks to SD - plugin to backup bookmarks to SD card
ConvertPad - Unit converter. Helpful, since I live overseas.
Dolphin Browser Mini - I tried lots and I just prefer the ability to switch tabs easily in this one. Not perfect though.
LED Lite - Flashlight. Very bright and comes in handy.
Goggles - For barcodes or just to play with.
Hanping CE - The best free Chinese dictionary I have found that stores on SD card - does not require web.
Lookout - Security and lost phone recovery.
MapDroyd - Download maps to store on SD card. Not as good as Google maps, but nice to have an offline version.
My Maps Editor - links to Google Maps, so I can create maps on my computer of places I want to go or plan a trip, and sync easily to the phone
Tasker - Awesome.
Wifi Analyzer - Great for analyzing your home wifi (or your friends)
XiiaLive Lite - Streaming music. Uses Shoutcast streams.

Also, lots of app recommendations in the app review forum:

Samba Filesharing ... it requires root, but is a great app ... Your Android SD Card becomes visible in Windows explorer ... you can drag and drop files from your computer to your phone just like you do from one folder to the next in Windows. No need for a browser window to be open or any software installed on your computer. Basically shows up as another devise on your network.

Some really really cool Apps developing here, plus so nice to move away from the limited number of apps that the 'black box's' of the stores push at us thanks eveyone so far...

One problem I did not forsee on starting this thread was how just how many very cool Apps I did'nt even know existed...the issue though is now needing a good app budget to get them all! Oh well got to have many of these :) nice job forum friends...
