Define "messing up a little bit." A tip or fix from a forum member may be waiting in the wings. Expecting anything from Samsung relating to upgrades or support is like watching paint dry. A useless and time-consuming endeavor.

Re: watching paint dry, you're correct. It is more fun. And as I've pointed out in the past, undergoing a root canal is less painful and more productive than dealing in any way with Samsung.

I navigated to the link you provided and noted, with interest, the following:

Maybe this has been covered elsewhere, but Captivates were released in 2010. Am I picking nits? Yes, I saw the model listing, but If I have to ask for clarification, the content of the press release failed to be properly edited.

For me it's a non-issue, as I adopted a custom ROM mentality last December.

CyanogenMod is a great alternative to stock if your up for a custom rom.

I personally wouldn't recommend CM7 for a first time flasher. While the process is relatively straight forward, there's a definite expectation there that you know how to troubleshoot your phone if you screw up.

If you are intent on going the CM7 route though, I'd recommend the official XDA thread rather than someone's random website.

Doing a bit of research (1 google search) I read that this is usually followed by an official announcement and Kies release. Does anybody if this is true and we should expect the upgrade soon (like in less than a week?)

this is the third 2.3.x release, the first 2 were 2.3.3, i dont think there is any way to tell when it will become an official release though

Ive been using the latest leak (I897UCKH3) for two days now. Simply put, for a stock ROM it is absolutely awesome.

I don't think this will be the release version because items like GPS logging was enabled. But with the quality of the leak, i think we are getting very very close for something official.
