Sync and Link Contacts on Photon Discussion Thread

I am just coming from the EVO where you could link different contacts into one. Now on the Photon they are all separate again and I do not see where or how to link these contacts back together. Anyone know how to do this?

TIA
Tom

Contacts > Menu Button > Edit Contacts > Menu Button > Join

Should pull in contacts you have including facebook and google.

No Facebook and Google contacts still sync on the phone.

Just make sure you log into your facebook on the phone. Main Menu > Accounts > Add Account > Facebook

In your contacts:
Menu > Display Options > Make sure facebook contacts aren't shown (unless you want it)

Then you're done. I'd say wait a hour or so and let the phone do it's thing to match whatever names it can between your FB account and Google account.

You may have to manually join people as others have said:
Select a contact > Menu > Edit > Menu > Join
type in the person's name. It should pull up their facebook account. select and save. viola.

Oh. Yeah. Of course. Thank god for that. But I think he just wants to see the FB photos appear on his contacts.

It would be nice if Google could actually save those pics to our Google Contact list.

No this is a problem. I was used to having My fb contact phone numbers automatically do their thing and show up phone numbers I was, say to, start a text

Thats strange...... when starting a new text message, I type a name, it automatically pulls up the numbers associated with the name.

To get Facebook pics associated with Google Contacts, use SyncMyPix

Yes numbers from Facebook appear in my contact list also. When I start typing a name both of my friends Google # comes up and the # he has listed on his FB account. Which, for me, is annoying.

Spork will that update Google Contacts with FB pictures? I already have them associated in my phone but not permanently saved.

Just switched from a terrible Blackberry Tour to the brand new Photon 4G. Love it so far, but contacts situation sucks.

I had duplicate copies after leaving the store and the sales guy set it up. I took out the facebook copies, which helped some. Now I have 1 copy of every contact. This is pretty annoying to say the least.

Furthermore searching my contacts is extremely slow. If i use the Google search bar on the homescreen, it is fairly speedy. However, if I search for a contact through the contacts or dialer section it's pretty slow. Thinking this may have something to do with having duplicates of every contact?

Any idea how I can simply remove them without having to go through and delete them one by one?

I'm guessing that my transferred SIM card had the contacts on it then when they switched my contacts in the store, it now has both?

Thoughts and help are much appreciated.

Thanks!

Have mercy--I'm a six-year Palm Treo user... I've been avoiding an upgrade for years just because I did not want to waste my time on these issues.

The guy at the Sprint store had me make a new gmail account. He copied all of my contacts to the Photon. NONE of them are in my gmail account, and ALL of the names are duplicated, but have different contents. (i.e. if there were multiple phone numbers, they are spread between the two duplicate names.)

1. How do I get the contacts FROM the phone TO the gmail account? They are supposed to sync, but only the new ones I create in the Photon go to gmail.
2. I'm hoping that once I get the contacts to gmail, I am hoping I can use it to merge the contacts... is that true? How do I get the contacts back to the Photon, in their "correct" condition afterwards?

Thanks!

So when you say "set you up" Did they plug in both phones to transfer contacts???

Do you already have contacts stored on a G-mail acct??

When i got into android to begin with, they hooked up my phone for the transfer....then when i tried a new phone, we did it again (not knowing it was stored in the "cloud") then when i went back to the 1st phone (android) we did it again.....

by the time i figured out WTH was going on, i had like 4-5 duplicate contacts...but not on every name...:(:(

Its easy to thin out and change or add if you dont want to go through your phone....
.
Login into g-mail on your comp...

go to contacts

delete/add there

Takes about 5 secs to update your phone, when you have made the changes...

and nothing should really be on that sim card right now unless you are getting ready to go over seas...

OK I went through this a few hours ago and it is annoying...this pertains to facebook...first thing you do is download the facebook app from the market...there is one on your phone already but all it does is sync your contacts...its not actually the mobile facebook...at least thats what I am to understand...anyways lets go through the strp by step because this method will save you the headache i went through.

Again...

first download the facebook app from the market.

then if you can open facebook on your desktop and check what contacts you have as friends and MAKE SURE they are matched the same first and last name with their facebook names...if u do not facebook will recognize this as a different person..and as you know you cant edit facebook info on a person...leaving u with 2 profiles of the same friend.

next go into Accounts from you main page...click add an account...here u will notice now 2 fackbook apps...but only one will let u in...enter ur email and password for facebook and BOOM!!!...all your facebook contacts and previous contacts you are friends with on facebook will have photos with their profile...

Now if you get a new contact who is on facebook that doesnt share their phone number on facebook...guess what??? no editing facebook profiles lol

sooooooooooooooooooo....

you have to delete the facebook account...go into contacts and make sure when u type the info for your new contact that their first and last name match facebook...then go back to the account and create your facebook account again.....and repeat for every new contact over and over and over again...

GEEEZZZ would it have been too much to ask for an update sync button???

not sure where the blame falls, on the app or the phone.

That sounds like way more work than it needs to be.

For all the people that I had in my google contacts, that didn't match exactly how their name is displayed in Facebook, I just went into the google contact and did exactly what SporkLover mentioned on the 2nd post of this thread.

I don't have any contacts in my gmail account. I thought there was a way to import/save your phone contacts to your gmail account?

Same here - I had my previous phone's contacts transferred, transferred in my facebook contacts, and have merged a good deal of them together. But now I still have some duplicates and I would love to be able to merge them in gmail, but they aren't showing up. Is there some time lag i'm missing?

I would really hate to go through all this and not be able to back up my contacts.

I tired doing the join thing spork mentioned, but every time I try to do it the contacts app crashes and has to force close.

I've resorted to just trying to delete the duplicates. Extremely time consuming.

Now I've run into a worse problem. I can't search for contacts anymore. If I type "home" into the search contacts it won't search. The only way i can search for contacts is using the google search bar on the homescreen...which also googles for it, so it isn't that good of an option either.

The contacts app also seems quite slow.

Any thoughts?

Love the phone otherwise...

Thinking about taking it back to Sprint for another
