stock voicemail help

I haven't seen anyone post this specific issue and need help with this same issue on my second Nexus. I don't receive voicemail notification in my status bar. On my previous phone I had numerous calls into support and with Samsung ( wow was Samsung inept) and visits to service centers regarding this. Numerous hard resets and tweeking didn't solve the issue. On day 28 I returned it for a Photon. While Moto has made one solid fast phone it just can't compete form factor and all vanilla greatness of the Nexus..... I returned the Photon the next day for another nexus. Guess what ... same isuue even in the store I had them leave me two voicemails and neither one prompted a notification.

I don't want Google voice or third party visual voicemails at all. My wife's Nexus gets notifications just fine and it is a pain to have to call into my voicemail several times a day to see if I have a message. Thanks in advance for any help.

I guesss I must be the only person who has experienced this not once but twice ...... suggestions to solve this please?

Did you experience this before downloading any apps? Do you use a taskiller that might be killing voicemail? I use google voice for voicemail so I'm not sure what settings the stock voicemail has that could be turned off, but I would guess that you've already tried that.

One other thought is to update your sprint profile under settings. If its only happening to you then the problem may be associated with your sprint account/phone number.

Thanks for the suggestions. The new phone experienced the same issue before I even left the store. I will try updating my profile.

I don't use a task killer. This was my second Nexus and it happened before even leaving a corporate store. I spent over an hour on the phone with Sprint today. The call was escalated twice and nobody could fix it. They put a ticket in. It has to be related to my number not the phone.
I just downloaded "better youmail" and now I get notifications and visual voicemail. The app is very IPhone like, but at least I am back in business.

We have had 2 of these Sprint Nexus S 4G phones. Same exact problem of no notification. We also have to call in to find out if there are any voicemails.

I ended up Downloading the following and works great as a work around.
