Root Looking for a fast, lite ROM for daily use.

CM7 is small and fast. Needs a little patience to get it set up correctly, but it flies.

I ran CM7 but found it kind of cumbersome... Can you elaborate on how to set it up correctly?

Trying Deck's GB... I like the idea of losing Rosie. I also loaded up an sbc Tiamat kernal for the first time. I'm excited to see how that effects things.

Thanks

With ADW (the default launcher) there are a lot of settings that can make the phone feel slower. I usually get rid of the app drawer animation, and set all animations to fast. Things like this is what, I assume, Granite means.

(By the way, anyone notice with ADW that if the app drawer has fonts on, the app icons look a bit off. They look like they have some 'artifacts' or something in the image... For me it's only with CM7 and ADW. ADW on sense seemed fine last time I tried it.)

I'm kind of in the same boat as the OP. I have been thinking about ditching sense for a bit, at least until we get some sbc kernels. So I starte dlooking for an AOSP rom. I've tried CM7 before, but not a fan of all the fixes it requires. I'm always afraid I didn't do something and then something won't work when I need it to.

I tried Evo deck, and I love the rom, but I think it has given me a wake lock problem that I can't seem to fix. I've tried flashing the radios that are known to fix the wake lock issue, and also a new dialer apk, which is supposed to fix this issue. But still my cell standby time matches my uptime.

I tried vaelpak 4 preview 0.2.2. I can't remember what was my issue with this off the top of my head. I may need to redownload and try again, because I know I had an issue, reflashed and it fixed that issue, but then a new issue popped up, reflashed, fixed that issue, but then a new issue popped up. I know one of my issues was apps not downloading from the market. Can't recall what the other 2 issues were.

I want to get some great battery life. I'd at least like to get 10-12 hours of moderate to heavy usage if possible. I guess I can try CM7 again, I just have my worries about it. Not sure why, I know there are guides on what fixes need to be install and all that. But for some reason it scares me, lol.

Thinking I might just go back to kinged kingdom and try some of the new kernels. I got pretty good battery life with it, and it is fast.

That's probably a rogue app that's messing it up. Decks rom is very clean. With a kernel, it's a great rom and you should get great battery life. YMMV

I've been running this for a few days and while the real test will be the weekend (I'm plugged in during the week, listening to everything I own on Google Music), but so far, everything looks great. I'm loving the Deck with Tiamat.

Two questions on this AOSP ROM.

1. I LOVE how lite and quick the stock launcher is, but I'm trying to add a couple shortcut buttons to the launcher (for a total of 5 at the bottom of the screen), but I can't find the setting.

2. I tend to use voice to text in the stock messaging app and it's not working.

Any help on these two items?

Thanks.

You guys really need to check out Myn's new ROM, if you're looking for a fast daily ROM. Synergy RLS1 (WITHOUT Godmode).

I was about to give up on Synergy ROM's, as I'd been an avid Fresh user for nearly 2 years & just recently switched to Synergy Kingdom Nightly's, before trying Myn's Synergy RC2 (w/godmode), & then I saw people everywhere saying they liked these ROM's better before godmode was included, so when he released RLS1 w/out godmode, I gave it a shot on Friday, installed the warm theme/swype & can't imagine being happier.

Everything FLIES. My battery dominates again. It's cool getting to use my wireless/usb hotspots from sprint again & the pull lockscreen (along with everything else) actually works, instead of lagging every time you try to switch from one app to another.

I would fully recommend trying it. It's very much good enough to run on a daily basis, at least so far. Plus, if you decide to stick with this line of ROM's for a while, b/c you partition your SD card & change your ext2 to ext 3 (to automatically move apps to ext3, on your sd card, b/c the system thinks it's internal memory), all you have to do is nand restore your data & your sd-ext from the backup you created before wiping & flashing, to save insane amounts of time & hassle setting everything up again.

@ RollBravesRoll, good info there. I was wondering if Syngery needed to be partitioned, and it is looking like I will need to buy a new SD card...

i still dont fully understand partioning.. i understand what it does but everytime i go to set it up i get kinda scared to do it because i dont know what settings to use (size/ext/swap/etc.) so i have never done it... i was also told u should use a class 6 or higher and im still using the stock sd so i wanted to get a new one before trying it..

it is super easy thing to do. i used this guide: [GUIDE][07/07/11]How to Partition your SD Card - xda-developers and i have been very happy ever since. i mean i have like 153 apps as of right now. with room to spare for music and stuff. of course i have a class 10 16g card. it is recommended that you have a class 4 or higher. but i think that it should be 6 or higher.

yeah... can you un-partition your card after if you want to? just a question for safety reasons... i dont know why i would want to i just want to know if this has to be a final decision u kno? anyway... OH and i know its off subject but thank you for suggesting koni's elite series.. really love the rom, very smooth and fast and the overall look is great... i have it paired with golden monkey 1.1 right now... but im probably going to flash one of netarchy's sbc kernels here in a minute (as per your suggestion lol) but anyways thanks again for the suggestion, great choice

well as far as unpartitioning your card, all you would have to do is re-format your card. but it will wipe everything on your card so make sure to backup before doing so.

another great rom that i love is mikfroyo as well, if you are going the froyo route.
