Official HTC Inspire Gingerbread Update Rumor Thread

I bought an Inspire 4G on July 4th. It has 2.2.1 and does NOT have the 3rd party software capability. I've chatted with ATT tech support multiply times. They say theyve tried pushing to me multiple times and i still don't have the update. I don't know what the problem is..... Spoke with an ATT mobile rep that helped me with the crossupgrade when i bought the phone and he is going to try to get to the bottom of the issue. He thinks they say they are pushing me the update but in reality the are just trying to get me off the chat.....
I got mine a couple weeks ago. Not sure if it was OTA of Wifi, cause I have it on wifi at home. ATT's signal being what it is. I was pleased to find it appear so quickly. Wish I had some tip on how it happened. I can confirm it exists. I did also go to the amazon app store and put in my number, but the link in the text message never did work. Maybe thats how it gets triggered? If you haven't tried that, maybe that is the secret? Good luck!

It will be coming out sometime this month. They haven't said an exact date. It will be prolly, 2.3.3 gingerbread with Sense 2.1. It will have various bug fixes, be optimized for better battery life, and have a settings tab in the notification shade, and a few other things I can't remember. No, you will not lose anything. You shouldn't lose anything off your homescreens either. However, I would back everything up to SD and remember what is on your homescreens, just to be safe. Like my old saying goes, "better to be safe than sorry". All it does is update the current system to the newer version of the OS and UI.

I've kind of documented all my homescreens widgets, my android settings and all the apps I have installed.

Would it be a good idea or complete overkill for me to do a wipe of the phone before the update?

I'm just thinking if something will mess up it will probably be because of something I did. I'm not rooted, am running launcher pro and have changed a bunch of system defaults like default browser and file associations etc.

So, anyone with experience with an HTC OS update? How are we going to get it? Do we need to keep clicking the at&t software update or htc wifi software update? Or does it come another way?

Well they should be rolling this update out over the air so all you would need to do is wait for the update to reach your device. Or you can manually check by pressing htc WiFi update since you need to download it via WiFi anyway.

just one thing i noticed when i read the full page , if you do manual update your phone will go back as brand new meaning you'll lose all your info except for the stuff on your SD CARD , SO IT WILL ERASE EVERYTHING ON YOUR PHONE , i personally dont care because i wanted a fresh start anyway , good luck to all , hoping we all enjoy the fun of gingerbread , ill post later after im done updating , best of luck for all ,

Where are you finding it? I'm not seeing anything except htc sync under downloads, and if I look at system and updates it says

"Where can I find the latest software for my device? close The latest software for your device can be found by going to HTC - Mobile Phones, Smartphones, Cell Phones, PDAs >Support>Select the Inspire 4G and then the Downloads tab. Any new software that is intended for your device will be found here."

I'm wanting to wipe clean too.

huh weird, that's what I've been looking at with firefox, just now tried chrome and IE to be sure, still the only thing showing up for me is the htc sync and a note about the april (hspa+) rom update.

Maybe they're staggering the release even from their webservers to different isps or subnets. dunno. I'm jealous.

Same here i just see sync and the April update.

I'll just go back to sitting in my dark corner waiting for others to get the update and report how it goes.
