Stripping of email

My wife and I share an email account (it is a google acct, but not gmail...seems like all the ISPs are migrating to using google mail. Anyway, we both have Android 2.2+ phones. We tried using IMAP, but her phone does not have a setting to select to "do not delete email from server", so that when she would delete email from her phone, it would delete it off the server (and, delete it off home computers). Obviously this is a problem as then if she deletes the email, my phone (or home computers) won't get it from the server.

I tried switching both our phones to using POP...and have the POP settings on google mail to "keep deleted messages that have been downloaded on the server". While they stay on the server, whichever of our phone happens to download the message first, the other never sees the email.

This is unreal...this never happened until she got the new HTC Sensation. Nice phone, but it is creating some real issues in our email. Yes, we need the joint account (but we each have separate other accts.)

Is there any solution?

Try another email app with more IMAP and/or POP settings. Or switch the shared account so that it's an alias that forwards to both of your accounts. There's more than one way to skin a cat.

Try an alternative email app, e.g. k-9 mail has more comprehensive IMAP settings than those that come preinstalled on the phone.

I was truly thinking there was not going to be a good solution. THANK YOU SO MUCH for the suggestion...I downloaded K-9 and so much of a better app than the stock mail app that came with the phone.

I only feel bad (ok, stupid) that I didn't think of this solution on my own. Simple and one I should have come up with...again, thanks for the suggestion.
