There was an announcement on LG's site saying that we are getting one for all Optimus One phones in due course, but I do not know if the Optimus M is considered an Optimus One. The press release is here:

They will provide the update, And support as well. It's just a matter of when. If I had to guess, I'd say give it at least a month to three months. ^^.

yeah they have discontinued the Optimus M from what I heard and that was their way of saying "we not going through all that update trouble, bitches"

Basically what they were trying to achieve with the 2.2.1 update, they perfected. I see no reason to update.

Phone companies should quit that, and go more in the direction of warranty-only enforcement, because it's reasonable.

For example, Mazda (I used to fix their cars at a dealer), has a basic policy as part of their warranty rules that says essentially, if they catch you racing your car, they'll void your warranty.

Just the same, they sell three different levels of performance parts to tweak and upgrade your Mazda. The lowest level is covered under manufacturer warranty like any other part of the car. The middle level has a moderate 12K mi/12 mo warranty on the parts alone if I remember right. The highest level has no warranties whatsoever, and is considered a category of race-only parts, and as such, I'm pretty sure will void your warranty, or are at least emphasized as not road legal.

Yes, Mazda will sell you parts they make/endorse that are not road legal, and will void your warranty.

But that's fine! Mazda is simply making their stance as follows: They will cover things that go wrong with your car under warranty, but if you do things that take the car beyond the scope of normal use and evidence of manufacturer defects, as much as they build their own race cars and love racing, they will refuse to take financial responsibility for your own adventures. But they sure as hell don't go in and try to stop you from doing any of it.

Summed up: If you wanna have fun, go for it, but they won't pay for it.

Every phone manufacturer should do the same thing, and just make it VERY clear. What we do with our phones is our own damn business, so they should stick with just voiding warranties upon discovering an owner has rooted, and stop trying to prevent us from doing it.

And And And, its not as if we are all screwheads... Where theres a will, theres a way. They keep wasting money on updates to keep folks from modifying, and we will keep finding ways to dismantle thier hard work.

They should put thier effort and money into something productive... like a flash update for the Op. M, or maybe even some 3g service. Ya know, the stuff they promised?

To be honest patching the root exploit is not the main reason for the 2.2.2 update, while I dont have that update or even know what it was technically for I think security, (patching the exploits) was only part of it. But even if it was not and patching it was the main focus it still is a good focus as exploits that allow malware or spyware can be a major problem too.

^^ for the typical phone user of course, not those that actively look for and root the phone, you can usually determine what is good and what isnt.

I noticed this evening that when we went from the Garland area, to the Marsh Lane and I-635 area of North Dallas, that I didn't have 3G coverage. When we came back home, I had it again. It seems that it's spotty coverage, that may explain why you don't have it where you are at. My wife still doesn't have it, even here at home while I do have the 3G coverage.
