Got my electricity bill for this month...(The summer time thread)

2 story 2100 sq ft. 2 kids that don't know how to turn off TV's and lights, a wife that washes almost everyday and a pool pump that has to run so many hrs a day. I'm good with the bill. Its due next month so ill drop $250 on it today then another $250 on due day. As long as its not like my buddies bill $1100.

PG&E here in parts of California are running these so called smart meters. I think its a scam but we can't do anything about it.

JayC, I'm not far from you... I'm out near Edwards AFB. My bill came today (SCE) and it's 489. I don't normally have one over 200 in the Summer though because we fluctuate between using the swamp cooler and the central AC. But we were gone for a couple weeks and so I left the AC on for the animals that were being cared for while we were gone. Hope the animals and the care takers appreciated it! LOL!

Just moved my daughter to Bako last weekend.... :(

i gotta few buddies out there in California City and Rosemond. I wanna replace my a/c unit cause it's still the same one that came on the house. About 90% of the homes in my neighborhood still have the original one. My house was built in 92.

I hope your daughter enjoys bako. It country but yet modernized. This place has everything that i need except a beach

I live in CC.

She actually loves Bako. She attends Cal State and was living in the dorms this past year for her freshman year... we decided we wanted something better for her, so we put her into an apartment. She's loving it thus far, and is loving being back in Bako (she's been 'home' for the Summer... and bored.) with all of her friends. Bako has more for her there, yet it's still close to mommy and daddy, lol.

I grew up at the beach... Newport. Ahhhhhh..... nice.. as a kid, wouldn't wanna live there again though, visiting my 'home' is enough for me and then I get to come back to quiet roads and beautiful skies.

Have you thought about doing a swamp cooler? I never wanted one, hated the idea. But then broke down and did it and now I'm happy we did. It has paid for itself in the first Summer. We use AC on humid days or when its over 100.... lol

i thought about it but would it be efficient for a two story house?

Yep it sure would be! You can't go the cheaper way and do a wall/window unit you would have to do as many of us have, and have it actually installed so it comes through it's own vents and such, It'll cost ya a pretty penny, but for us, by the time our last hot month (mid October) was over, it had already paid for itself. So the first Summer we didn't gain anything as all the savings really just paid back for the unit, but come the next Summer... ahhhhh it was bliss! We use to have upwards of $600 monthly bills, but averaged about 450-ish. Now, like I said before our bills are usually under 200, and hover at about 250-ish during the two hottest months when we are using the AC periodically. I run our swamp just about 24 hours, non stop, from March til October.

Speaking of the bills... my friend sent a text late last night, said her bill was over 750! Ack!

Buckeye, AZ - just outside of the Phoenix metro area, 3000 sq foot home, 2 stories, pool, 2 air conditioning units set on programmed thermostats, 4 kids that leave everything on and like to leave doors open that air condition our backyard, a wife that leaves lights on, and 110 degree days for most of the summer, my bill this month is $490. In the winter it drops to like $100 though, just the insane heat here trying to keep the house cool and the pool blue causing stupid crazy spikes in electricity costs.
