Notification "Reminders"

I've had the Eris since December 31. I've been trolling this forum and looking through the manual, but I haven't been able to find anything addressing this issue, which seems so basic to me that I'm sure it's been covered and I just missed it:

On just about every other cell phone I've owned, there's a way to keep reminding you if you haven't acknowledged a missed call or a text message - you can usually set the device to vibrate and/or sound a tone every two or four minutes until you acknowledge that you've gotten it. The only notfications "reminder" that I can find on the Eris is the flashing trackball. So, if I miss a call/text message, and the phone is holstered, I have no way of being reminded without taking the phone out and looking at it. Can this really be?

Unfortunately it is this way with this phone, unless someone found out the secret.

This is probably the one thing I hate the most about this phone. Every single phone I've ever had has this feature... why remove it in a "smart" phone?

Anyway, I used the Missed Reminder app for a while when I first got my phone, but I eventually ended up uninstalling it. I didn't like how it always gave me two notifications in the notifcation bar (one from the message/voicemail/etc, and a separate one for the Missed Reminder app). Sometimes it wouldn't go away unless you manually cleared your notifications. For example... You miss a phone call, you get 2 icons up there, one for the Phone app and one for the Missed Reminder app. I'd open the Phone app, and that notification disappears, because now I've acknowledged it. But the Missed Reminder notification stays, so I'd have to go up and clear it. Also it seemed to never let my phone "sleep"... kept my awake time at 100%.

But, aside from that, I will say that this app does exactly what it's supposed to. I had absolutely no issues with that - it worked perfectly every time.

^^ I had the same experience with the missed reminder app and uninstalled it as well. This is a huge frustration for me with the phone.

There is another way... install handcent sms from the market. Go into the app and there will be a "tool" icon on the upper right. Looks like a little wrench. Go down to notification setting<enable reminders<go into number of reminders< choose from 3,4,5,10, or keep repeating. Works great for me

Sounds fine for texting, but is there anything similar for phone calls?

Sorry to sway off topic a bit, but I haven't used Handcent because I actually like the stock app, no problems so far. What are some advantages of it? I don't know much about it.

Missed reminder is a POS. It will prevent your phone from sleeping sucking more juice from your battery faster than you can say **** that.

Not sure about reminders for missed calls or VM messages...

Handcent is really just a different style. More customizeable. I originally installed it because I thought there was no way to send a single text to multiple contacts at once. With this app you can do that. But apprently you can do it with the stock messaging. Its just a matter of preference.

I had noticed the increased battery usage with Missed Reminder too, but I think its the only thing available right now. Guess you'd have to decide which one you need more...battery or notification. I quit using it also for that reason, but I haven't uninstalled it. I don't get very many texts so I just keep it around incase I get into an extended conversation and need to use it.
This is another one of those features/apps (Google Voice being the other) that I'm supprised hasn't been developed more. LIke the others have mentioned, every other phone I have owned (though not smart phones) have had a reminder. Just seems like a no brainer to me.
I've been wanting to to try Handcent but it really doesnt do me any good if it.......and here we go again.... isn't integrated with Google Voice.

There are other options for everything else (sms, mms, emails) except missed calls. I can't believe that considering all the crap on the market.

I've had a number of different Smartphones and for some reason none have had the "notifications reminders".

For some strange reason developers of smartphones seem to miss some of the most basic requirements.

A crappy little ten dollar flip phone has reminders, but god forbid a $400 smartphone should.

I was a little afraid to raise this topic - it's such a basic cellphone feature that I was sure it must have been already discussed and I just missed it.
But now that someone else brought it up - neither one of the 2 blackberries I've owned had that feature.

I installed the Missed Reminder app. It worked fine yesterday but since I was at work and was able to charge the phone during the day I couldn't really notice any excessive battery drain.

I'm not a developer, but I would guess that any app that would permit this feature would have to stay open all the time, draining the battery. Maybe some developer out there would like to try to come up with something better...?

All of my previous Motorolas had a missed call reminder alert. And I quite agree. How hard would it be for it to built in to the android OS.
