Within becomes Epic Touch 4G

The Infuse isn't the only phone that has the 4 buttons, every non-european OG SGS had those too. The Euro OG SGS had the big home button also. I hate that big ugly button though! It just doesn't look good to me. I would want it if they could make it less ugly somehow. But I like the 4 capacitive better.

yeah i agree, the button looks really ugly and makes the phone look even more like the iphone. dunno why samsung insists on making their phones look like apple's when it seems like they have the talent to make slick looking devices.

I hope that sprint isn't going to be releasing their SGS2 variant using the Galaxy R platform...
AnandTech - Samsung Galaxy R Announced - A Tegra 2 Smartphone

The R has larger dimensions than the Euro spec SGS2... and the FCC docs for the upcoming sprint version has larger dimensions as well. Hopefully that's just a coincidence.

The main reason I want an SGS2 based phone is due to the speed of the Exynos SOC compared to every other smartphone SOC currently available.

Yes, but I remain optimistic that all these rumors will soon finally be put to rest. I can't for the life of me figure out why Samsung would get rid of their own processor.

Samsung actually has a very good reason. They are still troubleshooting their foundry processes for the Exynos chip, which is creating a lower yield than anticipated. You can see that there is still a supply issues with creating enough chips for the European market, and they launched in May. That is why Samsung put the Tegra 2 chips in for certain smaller markets even though the Tegra 2 costs more for slower performance and higher heat.

Since the US market is huge, if the haven't figured out how to fix their Exynos process yet, there is no way to supply enough chips for the US market while still sustaining their European and Asian regions, which are theoretically more important to Samsung. Unfortunately, that means there's a chance we may get a Qualcomm, TI, or Nvidia chip in our phones.

Me too, I cannot wait for this phone. I am still hoping it is using the original processor but I am starting to doubt it. Everything I liked about it originally most likely will be changed.

But it should still be an awesome phone.

Actually, I think you are spot on. I also am losing interest if these rumors become fact. The two key things that pushed me into the Within camp were the size of the phone and the performance specs based on the overseas version. With no confirmation that Samsung has ever solved their GPS issues, this phone is tending towards the negative now. Reviews on the Photon have been pretty good for the things I need, like call quality.

Where did you read about Samsung still trouble shooting Exynos processor line? I doubt it.

I think only Verizon, T-mobile versions would get different processor due to high speed 4G radios (4G LTE, 42Mbps HSPA+). But AT&T, Sprint version will come with Exynos as it doesn't require big changes in AP, radio chip integration.

I'm starting to lose interest in this phone, sadly. :( But hopefully, they will release it fairly soon, and with as little changes as possible. If they could do that, I will be a happy boy. :D

Sadly I'm done waiting for this device(might pick it up unlocked when it hits $200-250, even if it's a few years later). Instead I'll wait for the Nexus 3.

Blame the US wireless carriers and Apple for delaying great Sammy phones coming here. It's not happening in the rest of world.

Why blame Apple? The SGSII phones are not in their lawsuit. If they were, there would be a delay in the rest of the world considering it's a lot easier to prevent/delay product releases in Europe through lawsuits than in the US.

I'm surprised that some of you are hoping for physical home button on bottom just like international SGS2. For us in US, remember this is home country to Apple and haven't you seen all the news on those nasty lawsuits between them? Doing so would be like pushing button on apple's head.

Apple didn't invent physical buttons. My touch pro and touch diamond from years back had the same setup as well as a few pda's I had eons ago. I like physical buttons. I can find the button by feel and I know when a button press has been registered without needing to turn on some funky vibration mode. I couldn't care less if it makes my phone look kinda sorta like some other phone.
