Would you guys reccommend this phone?

Haha that was a bit much. Honestly if you just want web and email in a phone at a great price then its GREAT. If you want games and such, then its not so hot.

This exactly.

You can root it and flash Velocity 1.1 and overclock, and you got yourself a decent droid. Very fast and stable, still not good for games though :( I don't play games, so I don't have this issue :)

Its all about what you want, you can snag an ally on craigslist for around 50 bucks if you keep an eye out. Or you can get a droid incredible for $150. You get what you pay for, and this phone isnt BAD, no doubt it has its limitations, but the same was true when it was released. If you want web, email, the more simple games and you can get it rather cheap this phone is GREAT and for most the keyboard is a plus, if you want a high end phone capable of running ALL your apps at once and playing the hottest 3D games then yeah this phone blows and isnt gonna cut it. You guys are just hating!

As KOG said, it is about what you want.
2.1 is an early OS but not a bad one. If the hardware on this phone is decent and as a phone it is mostly trouble free, being able to get this for 50.00 is a good price.
If it can be rooted and the OS updated then its that much nicer for those who know how.

People knock the Optimus S,V,M etc for being under powered, but for an entry level Android it is a very nice phone, the Ally ma be the same.

If you can find one at a good price (50.00) it would be worth the price to give it a try.

I love my ally, especially with fun features of Velocity (overclock, tether, themes, performance etc.) Sure its not a movie theater in your pocket like a DroidX, but I can browse the web, check email, listen to pandora, go on youtube, tether my wifi, get weather/news and just about everything else those fancy phones can do on my ally... plus I have a physical keyboard which I will never give up.

I don't play games on my phone so I couldn't care less about the Ally lacking in 3D graphics... I have an actual computer to play games. Everyone who brags about how good their phone is for games gets laughed at, lets see your Droid play Portal 2.

Ive had the ally now since last summer. Its a really decent piece of hardware and it really does just about everything the newer higher powered ones does with velocity 1.1. It does have some cheap flaws that the manufacture put into there to save money. The headphone jack has become issues for some people including myself. It gets slow after its been running the OS long enough with good usage. It does have the annoying SD card being removed issue from time to time(although more often if you overclock). It has been known to fry SD cards. Not to mention if you tether heavy with it(esp wifi tether) you overload it and overheat the battery causing it to discharge even with the cord plugged in until it hits 0 and then starts bootlooping do a battery pull, restart(also seems to overload the wireless radio causing you to loose the 3G from time to time). All in all, I run just about everything you can on a normal phone(just slower). Its like running WoW on a celeron laptop with integrated Intel graphics. The velocity 1.1 has unlocked it to fullest potential as if you run stock verizon garbage the phone is practically useless(My dad just bought one with 2.2.3 preloaded, so extra sucky). I rely on this phone every day for my business phone and internet access as no one here can get anything else for internet and phone(no wires, no digi, no wifi, no friggen optics). So I can say ive put this unit to the test and it does perform for the money you cant beat it. My dad got it for 60 dollars on an upgrade plan. I also have the unheard of unlimited 1x data plan which is a glitch being im on 3g.

It won't do flash (for the most part) and doesn't have a lot of memory for programs, but root it, put Velocity 1.1 on it, and it's not a bad phone.
It is at end of life, and smart phones are going to cost more per month anyway so I'd save up a extra $150 to $200 and get something better at this point unless someone is going to give it to you. If your buying it I wouldn't pay over $40.00 tops.

Agree with all of this. I installed Velocity 1.1 on mine and put a new battery in it recently and it's better than it was when I got it new.
