Root Went to stock/unlocked state to check on something and cannot get back to Root Help!!!!

The title is a little long, sorry, but at any rate, I really need some help here. I had been having a lot of difficulty with BT connections between my Vehicle and the HTC EVO. I was rooted, and have been for quite some time, so I decided to see if it had anything to do with being rooted. I went back to UNROOTED/LOCKED/STOCK and now for the life of me cannot get back to ROOT in order to put my backups back on the phone. I have done absolutely everything exactly like it explains in the "Rooting for dummies" section, believe me, I did not skip a beat. Now every time I use unrevoked I keep getting a msg to the effect "Root failed. Is your firmware too new?" Or something to that effect. I have even followed ALL of the side notes from posts of others that have had the same problem and accomplished ROOT again via their methods. I would really appreciate some input/help here as to what I can do to get my phone back to ROOTED status. Thanks very much for your time.

how did you root earlier? was it with unrevoked 3 or unrevoked forever? that hboot is unrootable. unless you used unrevoked forever.

My original rooting method was unrevoked "(not forever)" so I don't know how that happened. How in the world do I get outta this? You know, that darn thing could've been a part of the pc36img.zip file I downloaded.....crap. So is there a way out of this mess? Thanks for your help.

No, I cannot get unrevoked to work at all and part of the procedure I went through in unrooting was to put s(ecurity) back to ON.

In regards to the pc36img.zip file, I couldn't tell you for sure (as far as a link is concerned anyway). And I've went through the unroot procedure so many times that the sd card is wiped. Of course I kept a copy of it, but the copy is that of the sd card contents before I did all this. I've also got several of those zip images on my hard drive here and I couldn't begin to tell you which one I used last.

I seem to remember after doint the unroot and flashing that .zip file that there was an update downloaded and that could also have something to do with what is happening. Man oh man, I'm probably screwed huh?

ok so then unfortunately you can't root now being that you have s-on and an unrootable bootloader(hboot 2.16). not sure how you updated your phone, but you have gingerbread on it. on some phones if they used unrevoked forever, the s-off flag is saved on the nv radio so that you can still root later if you take the ota. but now unfortunately you can't. i do not think that there is much you can do at this point other then wait for gingerbread root.

Wow, I wish I had noticed that post before I decided to go through the unroot process. Oh well, I can wait. At least I'll have a way back to root later on. I'll be sure to keep up with that thread, thanks.

I still had the original problem, but it didn't happen nearly as much. So technically I didn't really get a satisfying answer to my delima.
