Root Help!: Made a mess of my Root

Let me start by saying that this Message Board, especially this section has been an invaluable help.

I believe that my Optimus M uses Android 2.2.1

1) I rooted my Optimus M using gingerbreak.apk 1.2 and it seem to work fine.
2) I started to delete junk from MetroPCS using rootuninstaller and using a list provided by one of the members here, which said which apps were safe to delete.
3) So far so good... until I didn't follow directions NOT to delete the LG Home page.
4) Since I'm brilliant!... I did NOT backup anything and proceeded to delete any undesirable stuff. I guess I was having a manic/idiotic moment.
5) I used a custom recovery file for 2.2.1 by joneidy, which seemed to allow me to go beyong the Android screen when I pressed the "Home" key and the "lower volume" key. Obviously, still no home page but at least I was able to reach the slide down section of the "Home Screen"
6) Ah! It gets worse. I tried factory resetting the phone by turning it on while pressing four keys (camera, lower volume, return and the power key) and I deleted any apps that I installed before.

7) So here where I am... I remove the battery, press the low volume and home key while turning it on. It looks like it's going to let me set it up (I'm sure that I deleted some essential files).
a. Gives me the "select your language" screen
b. Gives me a "tour" of the phone features and says that setup doesn't work
c. Goes to a "minimal" home screen containing: a screen slider unlock key and a volume control slide key, as well as access to the slide down section.

Finally, my questions..

Did I just "brick" my phone?
Can it be saved by me, being the brain-dead wizard that I am?
Do I have to go to MetroPCS and take it like a "man"?
Dumb question: Can I pay someone to revive my phone?

The worst part is that I would do it again... only, a lot more carefully, because I swear that until I deleted the LG Home screen everything was going fine.

Your help, comments, insults will be appreciated. Seriously.

Pardon the long winded post.

P.S. The phone receives calls and I can call back the person that called. Same with text.

you did not "brick" your phone, though you may have some work to get it going again.
You can do it, dont take it to metro.
You could pay someone but if you want you can do it your self.

Your options are these,

Custom rom as mentioned, probably the easiest option and one of the better ones as well.

Return the phone to stock, using lgnpst and flashing it back.

Ehhh... you are the best. Very generous... but I think that I'm over my head... I'm from the DOS and Win 3.1 generation... I could always easily reformat and reinstall, even if I lost all the data...

How do you Flash a ROM Or where can I find out? (a link, so i don't have to bother anyone else). I made some searches here and Googled it, but couldn't find anything that I understood.

Also, where can I find lgnpst? is it in the list of .apk files that you had the link to at the other thread?

Again, thanks.

Don't think it's that hard to do, just read a couple threads, get all your data and info together. My opinion download the sense rom, but read the threads, you have to install custom recovery to do this.

ok this is for custom recovery, it is easy, just take your time and follow instructions precisely. These instructions include other phones so pay careful attention to which phone uses which file, and commands.
http://androidforums.com/getitnowmarketing/330813-all-one-recovery-thread.html

and here is a post that lists, with links all the custom roms and each will have instructions on how to put them on.

and for redoing the stock using lgnpst read this post

I would also suggest reading through this thread How to Flash Recovery AND Setup AndroidSDK (Revised)

It is very concise and lays it all out plainly.

I too am from the DOS 5 and up and Win 3.1 generation. I have a fair bit a knowledge of Linux, but just enough to get by. I'm certainly not a programmer of any sorts. I got the SDK installed since it's primarily just a windows program. Then I figured out how to use the adb so I can push commands to my phone from the command line on my computer. This thread makes it pretty clear.
