Help Phone Freezing/Rebooting

Purchased an Optimus M on the 27th of February and the problems began immediately. Spoke with the independent dealer and he said it would go away if i reset it back to the original settings. Makes no sense since the problem started on day one...prior to any changes that I made to the phone. Anyway, I reset the phone but problem still exists. After 2 more weeks of this hassle, I went to a corporate store and the experience was awful. After waiting for over an hour, I attempted to explain the situation to the employee (and manager of the store) and they simply do not care period. They finally offered up a replacement but did not disclose that it was a refurbished phone...convenient details to leave out. After finding out they were offering a "used phone", I told them no way and then the manager told me that was all they could do. The manager actually just walked away from the conversation and had no interest in solving the problem. As of now, I still have my phone and am just dealing with the issue...don't use the phone much...10 to 20 minutes per day. I initially went to MetroPCS because I did not want locked into a 2 year contract with Verizon...just came off one. Looks like I will be heading back to one of the other companies (Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile) and just bite the bullet. Dealing with MetroPCS in a nightmare so BE WARNED!! I Like the phone but the hassle (lies) are just too much!

I agree, METROPCS customer service sucks! I haven't took my phone in for them to have it looked at but I'm sure I'll probably get the run around too. Ugh... I wish I could afford to get back with Verizon but I couldn't afford $90 phone bills :( and they cut my service off cuz' I wasn't gonna pay and I couldn't pay at the time. So I think I owe them like $400.00 Ooops lol

Awesome! What part of Jax are you from?? I thought I was the only one having this issue but apparently not. This phone has no custom ROM on it and nor do I plan on putting on one it until I get this issue fixed. I already tried to format the SD card and restart the phone but it still freezes up :( I think this is the worst phone I've ever owned. I hope the Samsung Admire that's supposedly supposed to come out in early september isn't going to have any of these issues!

I can't tell you how many phones I've gone through with 3 different carriers, cingular (before AT&T bought them out) then I had Nextel and then Verizon, I couldn't afford Verizon anymore :( If I had a better job I'm definitely going to be switching to someone else. I also updated my roaming and it's now at 3019, I'm not sure what it was at before I updated it. I also seen in one of these forums that there's an Android update for the Optimus?? I'm running on 2.2.1 so where can I get the update from????

im near merrill rd. arlington I guess, just moved to jax last year.
if you want to try the 2.2.2 update you can get that by the method someone mentioned earlier, lg updater you can get it from lg's web site.
I think if your having a real problem with the phone you have a hardware defect, no amount of software can fix that. I may have just got lucky but I have never had freezing or rebooting. other then when I clocked the phone past its safe point.
Your phone may get the 3020 prl by itself, some do. Mine did not I put it on using LGNPST it really isnt very hard I think it looks more complicated then it is.
Same with flashing new roms. Roms btw generally help your phone run smoother and quicker.

i guess after reading these posts, and multiple others that it appears to be an issue with lg, i assume somewhere probably where the cpu might not be responding correctly to the amount of data fed to it, just like a slow computer. Freeeezzze. Reboot.

My phone does freeze/reboot, for the first few days it happened while it was plugged in the car adapter while i was talking, if i tilted the phone i would get a buzzz sound and then blackscreen restart. I stopped tilting the phone and unplugged it from the charger when i needed to talk - issue solved. Still, appears to be an lg issue and they need to figure a fix. I assuming in that situation the phone had some type of power surge because if you pull on the phone the plug comes out rather quickly.

Second, i noticed most reboots if i try to do too much at once, example would be see the data arrows both solid, trying to run seesmic back and forth with the facebook app from the market and sliding back and forth from the home screens looking for other apps. The optimus is a low-to-mid range android, that being said is probably why i get freezes. I want it to do a lot more than lg intended it to do. I love the android operating system and rooted a droid 1 from verizon with cyanogen mod, if my usb port wasn't messed up and it read correctly i would flash that phone to metro, but it doesnt work.

I think everyone should complain to lg and let them know that their phones should be better built.

On the other hand as a consumer relius and the others have every right to be upset if metropcs instore customer service is rude/adrupt/non-caring. We are living in a society where customer service is everything for a company image. If a local manager got rude with me i would write a corporate letter, write to it's investors/partners/stockholders asking them if they want to be part of a sinking ship? Bad customer service is not the way to go.

Even if metropcs doesn't want to take responsibility for a manufactuer defect of a product they knowingly sell a few things here :

1) if metropcs is aware of complaints of the optimus then they are knowingly intending to defraud/mis-advertise a product ie, false advertisement. If they are aware of an issue offer a permanent fix, or comparable replacement (same cost)

2) metropcs should take the time and walk the customers through a process of contacting lg for support on a product replacement/warranty. Step by step. Yes i pay you monthly, hold my hand and walk me through the process. Give me ticket numbers, set up the claim for me. I pay you. You use my money to pay your hourly wages now your employees who are paid with my money should walk me through the process and help me.

Other than that, metropcs has great pricing for its service but now that they are gaining ground they have a responsibility to revamp their customer service issues.

agree with you all the way! Couldn't have said it more better than this!! Thanks!!!!!!!

LOL I wish I knew how to download that LGNPST but after reading all that user put, I was lost from the beginning lol. but yes, I have it running on the 3019 not 3020. what is the difference anyways?? LOL is 3019 still not 3G?

I am a guy, :D
if you can follow directions you can put custom roms on, you follow recipes to make food? Same thing, well almost lol.
The 3020 prl is the only one that will get your 3g.

the prl is preferred roaming list, its job is to tell your phone which towers it can connect too, and the towers with 3g enabled are listed in the 3020 prl and not listed in previous ones.

First Optimus M [2.2 got it on Christmas] - Service stopped working, got it replaced

Second Optimus M [2.2.1] - Freezing/rebooting as soon as I got it. Decided to take it back.

Third Optimus M [2.2.1] - Same as second one...wtf. Ordered another replacement.

^ all of this within the past month

Picking up the fourth one in a couple hours from the metro place. Wish me luck. And yeah, I've tried root, roms, upgrading, different home launcher, advanced task killer, everything on all of them.

I absolutely love this phone! I just need one that works! I've been very unlucky with my replacements.

All of my replacements are covered with a warranty, so it's not costing me anything except a $10 shipping fee each time.

An idea though: Everytime I get it replaced, they take my old battery out and put it in the new replacement phone. What if it's an issue with the battery?

Edit:

The fourth replacement ended up being a good one, no freezing/rebooting, it's been 3 days or so. Good luck everyone :)
