honestly,the difference is not much to the naked eye,lol,youre not missing anything obvious. our permanent patch hboot pretty effectively blocks the hboot from being flashed. a true radio s-off will let whatever hboot you want flash,while still remaining s-off.
so the end result is simlar(you dont lose s-off)
the way it is currently working,the radio is saying "hey! im s-on" but the patched hboot has its hands over its ears and is going "la la la la la la your s-off,nothing to see here,ima flash wateva i want!"
in a sense,a true radio s-off will take away the lies and deception and the internal struggle and conflict going on within the phone between radio and hboot.(ok,maybe thats a lil dramatic
)
if you had an incredible or an evo,what they had was a radio s-off with unrevokeds forever tool. you could change the hboot if you wanted,and flash whole ruus,the bootloader would overwrite,and the phone would remain s-off until you ran their s-on tool.
at least,thats the simplest way i can think of to explain it,hope it helps
i dont mean to imply that our patched hboot is inadequate. it will protect us just fine, i just think the radio s-off is better(internal conflict is never good
).
your right,without a gsm radio the TB will never be a true world phone,and i dont really care much about that part,anyway. tho i guess some might... as you could then potentially use it on cdma frequencys other than verizons.
