Working on this section

Awesome! I've lurked these forums for a while and have seen you do a lot of good work with the Ascend! :) I just got an M835 myself (local store was out of the Ascend) and am looking forward to tweaking it.

I know you're FAQ will be comprehensive and I'm not trying to rush, but I do have a question for you, though. You said you rooted and cleaned? By cleaned, you meant removing the MetroPCS bloatware? If so, what is safe to remove?

Mine is already rooted with SuperOneClick and all seems OK, so far.

Ok, I know its been a while so im going to just post s few general FAQs.

1. Rooting can be done with gingerbreak 2.1 but you CANNOT UNROOT.

2. Metro PC's apps can all be removed with a root file explorer (I used a paid app called root explorer) simply go into the "cust" folder and delete any unwanted apps from the app folder. Reboot afterwords.

3. bootstrapsound.oog (booting sound) is in system>media>audio (you can find custom boot sounds through Google)

4. Bootanimation.zip (startup animation) is in cust>metropcs same deal as bootsound.

5. The audio thing only runs when you use headphones and is optimized for earbuds.

6. Yes, once rooted you can tether using wifi or USB.

7. If your screen is twitching out just tap the power button and unlock the phone. Dunno why it happens but happens more in humid weather.

8.Yes, there are two speakers on the exterior of the phone for stereo speaker play.

9. The light is a battery indicator. Green, yellow, red, dead.

10. There is no cwm or other recovery as far as I know but I am working on it as well as I can. If you have Linux and are willing to help please pm me.

That's it for now.

ok I was able to root using gingerbread 2.2. I have super user. how in the world can I get rid of easy metro wifi? I have advanced task killer... and as of yet there are no roms to flash this to gb? I know I started on the budget android phone. I read the above but I must be using wrong process viewer as it won't let me delete the cust/apps - you can change boot animation and sound from the metro pcs one?

Metro wifi is in the cust folder. You need to mount as read/write (r/w) or similar. Remebmer that I used a paid app (will link later).

Yes, you can change the boot sound and screen by replacing the. Oog and zip. I have a few I will post after adjusting them to for your phone.

Actually, for Recovery, I used Ultrajack and it's fine, I just had to use the U8150 version for it to run now, now all I'm trying to do is to remove the boot logo (before bootanimation) and replace with the one I want

Have you done a backup and restore test?

You are looking to change the splash screen... im working on that too but its more complicated than the animation, different kind of file.

Yes I have done both and both worked successfully :)

NOTE about Ultrajack and Backing up, you may have to mount the sd card first before backing up the sd-ext and .android_secure sections, but everything else works like a charm :)

EDIT: yeah, I changed the bootanimation and boot sound too :)

Hey, I am new to this android type of phones, and my friend showed me all these things he can do with his HTC Evo by rooting. Rooting is as far as I got, I am wondering is there any Custom ROMs like Cyanogenmod7, 6,or any other kinds work on the Huawei M835? Thanks.
There are a few for the U8150 (Which I heard from XDA that the M835 and U8150 are basically the same phone) There is a CM7 for the U8150 out there by the Ideos Dev Team (google for that) and there's Fusionideos on which I'm about to try later myself, keep in mind with Fusionideos, you have to install the browser, market and e-mail client yourself, also, I'd STRONGLY recommend that you install a recovery solution (I use Ultrajack) and make a nand backup before performing any CM or FI install so that way of you mess something up, you can always go into recovery and restore with said backup

I chuckle when I see these... sorry

Did you backup your phone first?
If so restore the backup and wait for someone with the m835 as a toy/Modding phone to test stuff first.

Didn't backup? Maybe someone else did and you may be able to use theirs... assuming they don't mind giving you their Google account for a few minutes or thought ahead and backed up their phone after a factory reset.

Otherwise you need to find a stick recovery or working rom

I tried the ideos cwm. It doesn't work. But if you can convince me I may try your suggestion and make a stock rooted recovery for mat

Yes I did a backup, what now do I do? How do I enter recovery mode from the boot? It goes Hauwei > Ideos > Android logo ( metro pcs sound) then resets to Android logo.

while powering on, hold the power button + volume up + green button until you see the Ultrajack menu

Also, I wouldn't recommend CM7 until they iron out all the kinks on it first, I had issues with an endless com.android.phone error

Well, I prefer Ultrajack over CWM's Recovery Mode because of nandroid over CWM's Backup Method, less corrupted backups with UJ then with CWM :)

EDIT: Tested FusionIdeos, leaves the metropcs APN empty and your forced to input the data yourself :(

I would try it but I don't own the phone, its a good friends. Can you do mat a favor and make him a freshboot recovery? Uploading to media fire should work.
