Cracked Screen Issue

Question... bought my daughter, 15 years old, fascinate for christmas, so she has had it a little over 6 months. After 4 months, screen cracked, became totally useless. I had insurance and had it replaced, I think around $95, now two months later, cracked screen, again totally useless. During the time she had it she has lot of issues, shutting down, text messaging problems. Her previous phone which was a flip she had no problems and is very responsible, so question is the cracked screen more of an issue with these larger amoled screens?

I had an original eris, now an incredible and have never had an issue with cracked screens even though I have dropped them a few times with cases on them. I'm comtemplating instead of using the 2nd and last insurance claim for another $95, just buying a used incredible for around the same price since mine has been terrific with no issues and maybe it will stand up better. Not sure what a used fascinate would sell for although the replacement would be like new for $95 and maybe sell it or trade it as I think I have had it with fascinates!

Get a new replacement for $95 then, you could either:

1) Give her your Incredible, use Fascinate yourself

or

2) Buy a better case for her so she won't crack the Fascinate again.

The screen cracking is not an inherent issue with the phone. Your daughter is being wayyyyy too rough with the phone to crack two screens.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually like my Incredible much more than the Fascinate as I played with hers. I rooted my Inc and it is a fabulous phone and the battery life is far superior to hers because of being able to setcpu, etc. It is also much quicker with no lags and I like the slightly smaller amoled screen on it compared to the larger fascinate. I tried out the Thunderbolt and other than the 4G I still like the Incredible better and no reason to change or upgrade yet. Probably get the replacement for one last try for her as I really don't want it and buy a used Inc for my other younger daughter who is due for a replacement for her flip phone...thanks again.

Thanks for the response, what is weird is the cracks have both been just very minor, like hairline cracks under the surface of the outer surface of the screen, this last one is even hard to see looking straight on as you have to tilt the screen to see the cracks underneath....but these cracks totally destroy the use of the phone as I have seen some pretty severe cracks on other phones, especially the iPhones that still work just fine with the cracks....this last small crack from not dropping the phone but leaving it in her backpack with other stuff instead of a separate pocket, so they must have josseled together some how. In any even it just seems the Incredible is such a more durable phone, maybe just because the screen is smaller.....thanks again!

BTW...my good friend has the Droid Charge and loves it so Samsung I'm sure makes good stuff...

I understand what you're talking about. I have the Charge now, coming from Incredible and Fascinate, and I loved those phones too!

i know what it is, these teenagers are wearing super tight jeans these days and they all like to put their cell phone in their back pocket. a very thin plastic framed phone like the Fascinate that is basically all glass on one side, as soon as you forget and bend over to sit down, even if you dont sit down, the jeans are trying to bend the phone around their ass, and guess what, the glass breaks..

Teenagers love technology but they don't know how take care of things because they don't pay for them. Had the same problem with my teenager, literally breaking his ear plugs every month because he slept with them. Cracking the phone class because he put it in his back or front pockets. No matter how much I spoke and told him not to sleep with ear plugs to listen to music or stop putting your phone in your back or front pocket he wouldn't listen. Guess what? When he started paying for his stuff out his own money because I refuse to replace ear buds and phones he started taking care of them. The Fasinate is a wonderful phone, its just in the wrong hands. I suggest an Otter Box case the extreme version if you insist on rewarding this behavior.
