Beware of Progressive insurance

I have a friend that works in claims at progressive.

I told her about your post and without knowing many details she came up with the following:

1. Florida is a high fraudulent claims state and they (progressive) just recently implemented a policy of too many claims and you're out.

2. She said progressive cannot renew your North Dakota policy in Florida. So it's possible that you would just need to contact one of their specialty teams to get this resolved.

I tried contacting everyone, ya they told me finally that the fraud is what prompted this policy.
However if they bothered to check they could dismiss fraud claims. For example they have a claims center not 5 miles from my house if they want they could have me go there and verify cracked windows.
I also think that dropping customers based on possible fraud is going to come back to kick them in the ass. They dont want to verify an just kick those good paying customers out soon no one will want to insure with them for fear of losing insurance if they need to use it.

I've got a $1000 deductible so filing a claim in that case still wouldn't make much sense in my situation.

It's kind of a given that if you file too many claims your company will drop you. What defines too many depends on the company.

However some, including mine, have a $0 glass deductible, covered by the Comprehensive portion of the policy. This may be state-dependent as it's been on my policy with 2 different companies within NY. Of course, repair is preferred over replace, but if the chips were bad enough they may have had to replace.

You do realize that it would be a huge additional cost to run these verification centers you propose? I would be pissed at that because it would make my rates go up even though I live in another state and have not made any claims at all.

be happy you don't have Geico, they've been an absolute nightmare so far.

They've raised my rates 3 times in the past year.Once because they said my mileage had increased (it had not changed what-so-ever, and even if it did, how would they know unless i reported a change?), once they couldn't even give me a reason, and one of the times was after a fender bender, so I understood it the only problem was they NEVER TOLD ME IT WAS GOING TO GO UP!!! they just took an extra 30 dollars out of my account, which leads me to my next annoyance:

they make you use automatic bill pay. i like being able to pay my bill at my convenience. the last time i went to pay a bill, i wanted to pay half on one card and half on the other. they wouldn't let me pay anything less than the amount due. I was GOING to pay the amount due, just half on each card! so I had to call customer service and go through the whole phone prompt ordeal to talk to a person. so what i've been doing is putting a card I don't use that i know will decline them when they try to take it out early, then i just pay it at my convenience, however they harass me by calling me at 8am every morning saying they are going to raise my policy rates if i don't add an auto bill pay card blah blah blah.

i've talked to them multiple times about all of this (in a polite and calm manner) and told them if they didn't get their act together, i'd be switching to another company. NONE of the reps i've talked to have expressed ANY apologies, not even an insincere one. The simply ignore my complaint and say, "is there anything else you need help with?" , etc. I called the last rep out on this (the first time i've gotten upset with one of them verbally) and said "really? you're not even going to ATTEMPT to apologize? this is part of the problem, you guys don't even care that i'm being treated poorly" she says. "ummm, just make sure you add another card to the automatic bill payment system or we'll be raising your rates" UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

If you dont like them thast much then switch to another company. Its your right to do so. No one is forcing you to use them. So the problem is you and not them. They have their rules and when you accept a policy from them. Then you agree to follow their rules. Its just like with gas in a car. If the gas from one station makes your car run bad. Dont you switch to another station that makes your car run great or do you complain about how the gas from the first station makes your car run bad and keep filling up every week.

So switch companies and you will be a lot happier or do you like to have something to complain about?

WOW. great logic there. so by your reasoning, NO company is a bad company, simply because you don't have to use them? this is piss poor reasoning at best.
i drive a sports car that a lot of smaller insurance companies (who i would usually rather deal with) won't cover, period. Everyone else is a lot more expensive. Just because they're cheaper doesn't give them an excuse to have such terrible customer service. And I don't care what you say, there is NO excuse for raising my rates without informing me first, ESPECIALLY when they take it directly out of my account. nice try at trolling though...

I don't think he's saying that no company is a bad company. He's just saying that he thinks you're better off switching to another company than continuing to do business with a company that offers poor service.

Sure it does. They seem to have kept you, right? Plenty of companies have piss poor customer service if they know you will stay with them no matter what. Look at the top dog cell phone companies. Need I say more?

Show me where I said no company is a bad company. Just because you think they are dont make them bad. You are just having a poor personal experience with them. My parents has had gieco for over I think 40 years or so and never once had a bad experience with them. You have to take the good with the bad.

So again if you are not happy with their service then either switch companies or stop complaining. After all you get what you pay for.

when you stated: "No one is forcing you to use them. So the problem is you and not them." , that implies that you think since i don't have to stay with them, they are not in the wrong at all, thus implying you think no company could possibly be bad, simply because you don't have to stick with them.

i will agree that im having a bad experience with them, and not everyone will. I'm just sharing my bad experience. although i will say, i have a few friends in the auto-repair industry and they have all said geico is one of the worst insurance companies for them to deal with. when it comes to insurance, the smaller companies tend to be better.

as for lordofthereefs comment, so you think any company that offers cheaper rates than others has the right to have shitty customer service? NO company should have a pass for poor customer service.

and let me just add, you don't always get what you pay for. but in this case, you do.

you guys act like i have no right to be upset with the way i've been poorly treated by a company i do business with, and it's ludicrous to be honest. I GUARANTEE every single one of you has complained about a company before, whether it be cell phone, insurance, cable, etc. GUARANTEE IT.

again I am not saying they are not in the wrong. You feel wronged by their policy and you have the right to move to another company if you are not happy. By staying it shows it must not be that bad after all.

Oh you have a right to be upset but if you don't do anything about it and just accept poor service. Yeah I complained about the blue death star after I was treated poorly and guess what I left them and now with big red. I have been treated good by them but have seen them others treated poorly. Like I said it's personal experiences with any company. You have to make the best of it. Just like you show that you will roll over and accept their poor service because they are cheaper.

i'm still with them right now because i'm selling my car in a month. i'll be switching once that happens.

HAHA does it look like i'm "rolling over and accepting it?" because it definitely doesn't seem that way to me. (i've filed complaints, left reviews on different sites, and will be switching once i get rid of my car that requires a larger insurance company)

I'm currently covered with Progressive and they flat out suck! I am always behind on my insurance payments due to the fact that it went up like a lot since my accident and my tickets (okay, I know, I am not blaming anyone else but myself) but still, they should at least give me some leadway, it sucks having to pay $173.00 ($186.00 if I'm late) when I'm currently working 1 day a week for 6 hours :( it doesn't help much. Guess I need to find a better job LOL. But yeah, that sucks though, especially with multicar discount. What's up with that?? lol

Because. If they let you slide, they should let others slide and before you know it, their business is sliding down a hill and the stockholders revolt. . I say you can take the bus, most likely. Yes/No? Thought about getting rid of the car?

I remember when I was forced into catching one bus to take me to the TRAX station where I caught a second train to go downtown, then catch another train to go up the line where I had to transfer to bus number 1, ride until the bus turned and get on another bus to get to work.
Really hard if you had to work at 6:00. Doubly hard if you miss one component of the process. Like miss a train and you miss everything.

I have been with Progressive for about 6 years and have been happy with them. I live in FL. I had been in one accident a few years ago where I rear-ended someone, my fault, but I called Progressive from the accident and they guided me through everything. I took it to an authorized repair shop (it was still driveable for the 1 mile distance), rental car company picked me up from there and took me to their office for a rental car, an Progressive agent stayed in contact with me on repair status, and within 2 weeks I had my car back. Of course, my rates went up quite a bit on my renewal which was expected with any insurance company.

The whole experience was smooth and everyone at Progressive was polite and courteous which is why I continue to send them money. Because of being with them for awhile, I also qualify for their accident forgiveness now. I could probably find a cheaper alternative, but because of my personal experience with Progressive I would rather spend a little more to have peace of mind if I have another accident.

I was with progressive off and on since 96 or so, 2-3 years here 6-18 months with someone else then back to them for 4+ years then went to another for 2 years, then back to progressive from 07 or so, I was a "premium" member my rates were pretty damn low, 3 cars full coverage $129 a month.
The part that I get pissed about is that they do not take multi cars into the equation but thats fine with me, I have switched to 21st century and surprising my rates went down to $109 a month.

I had progressive for about 2 years until I switched to USAA. Cheaper and glass was included with zero deductible. When I got into an accident (not my fault) the other guy had progressive and they tried telling me that because I had prior damage on the front bumper (a crack, and yes front bumper, the guy backed into me) they wanted me to pay for half a new bumper. I told them where to stick it, called USAA and they took care of it. Never had an increase in my premium til I got a newer vehicle.

You’re better off without them! Get < link removed at the site owners request > auto insurance quotes online from the provider I’m using-The Hartford. Their rates are low, their coverage is thorough and they’ve got a no-drop policy. They’ll only non –renew your policy if you’ve been drinking/doing drugs while driving or are medically unfit to drive.
