Samsung Admire

MetroPCS is making good on its Android commitment by announcing today the Samsung Admire, a mid-tier Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone.
The Admire comes equipped with a 3.5-inch HVGA touch screen, a 3.2-megapixel camera and camcorder, a Swype virtual keyboard option, and an 800Mhz processor. It also includes a microSD card slot that takes up to 32GB expandable memory.
Those who prefer their Android without adornments will appreciate that the Admire comes without Samsung's custom UI. The Admire stands 4.6 inches tall, 2.4 inches wide, and is less than 0.5-inch thick. If you lust for color, it comes in bright red; more sober types will gravitate for the gray.
You'll be able to acquire the Admire next month. Although MetroPCS hasn't announced the exact pricing or release date, the prepaid carrier did characterize the Admire as a phone for students, budget-minded buyers, and first-time smartphone owners. Glancing at Metro's portfolio, the Admire could slide into the $150-to-$200 range off contract.

Unless your area already has 3g your not going to get 3g at least not from Metro regardless of what phone you have. Almost all Android phones are 3g capable, however unless the carrier has 3g in your area your going to be stuck at 1x, or use WIFI.
But I read in the specs that this phone has evdo, unlike the Ascend which has 1xrtt..wouldn't that make a difference??

Nope. They only have 3G in certain areas so far. You could have the most awesome phone ever, but if Metro isn't pushing out 3G over the airwaves, you aren't going to receive 3G over the airwaves.
I see..how do I know if my area has Metro 3g coverage??Lately,I've seen ALOT of people on youtube from Texas,Cali, and Florida with 3g on their Ascends, but from what you guys are telling me Metro doesn't offer 3g..so confused..btw I'm a noob so pardon the barrage of questions..

Cricket and Metro both have the Ascend. Cricket is 3G everywhere (with a strong signal) but Metro just started upgrading to 3G. So far only certain areas have it. Look through the Metro PCS has 3G now!!! thread for more info on locations. Someone following that thread probably has a link to a map or something showing affected areas.

I am waiting for the esteem to come out, and to see how much Metro is going to screw it up...lol...sorry but the Admire orginally was supposed to have a 4mp camera, and an LED Flash...Metro got it to 3.2mp and no LED flash..The Esteem is supposed to have a 5mp Camera and LED Flash, and also a forwad facing camera...So its a wait till end of Sept and see whats going to be what. Still at the price tag of close to 400, i am thinking my money would be better spent on an EVO that has been flashed to Metro, or picking up a 16gb Iphone 3GS for $150 and going to Simple Mobile.
