Help Evo 3D Software Update Coming August 23rd (rolling out now)

The EVO 3D, on the other hand, is landing a much bigger update. We’ve got a fix for instances where the lockscreen gets stuck, the ability to transfer contacts over Bluetooth, a fix for one-day-off birthdays when synching to Facebook, GPS fixes, Spiderman stability issues are being addressed here and, last but not certainly least, Sprint’s giving users more freedom in which applications to remove (please be Spiderman 3D please be Spiderman 3D please be Spiderman 3D). The EVO 3D’s OTA is scheduled for August 23rd and will be a manual OTA (meaning you’ll have to poll the server in order to pull it down.

I'm totally stoked. This is likely to be that stability update within the first month that I have been predicting.

With the official launch date of June 24, I missed it by a month, but I am still mighty glad it's finally going to hit.

I'll not be installing this update until I'm sure it won't bork rooting like what happened with the 4G. I'll wait for it in a build on a custom ROM.

whoa there, why would you ever do an update like this on a rooted phone? wait for the devs to put it into the ROM.

I'm excited too, I hope this really will prove to be the much anticipated stability update. I hope it will do more things for us than advertised. A few of those things have been mentioned in this thread, so I won't rehash or harp on them too much. But there are little quirks here and there that will hopefully be addressed.

I also hope for everyone's sake that this update will be in conjunction with HTC, allowing us to manually unlock the bootloader via HTCDev.com if desired. I probably won't utilize the tool (that has always been my position yet I helped fight for our right), but I definitely want to see the much promised ability come to fruition finally. If it is not a part of this update then we should expect another update in September sometime.

Are you sure this updates it to 2.3.4? I'm doing a reset first so I start with a clean slate for the update otherwise I could have it installed already and check.

Anyway, It is HTC's phone. They can enable or disable any Google feature they want before they send it out to the end user. Unfortunately in situations like this we are at the mercy of HTC's discretion (kinda like how in my opinion we should all at least get the option of running vanilla Android if we want to, but HTC takes away that freedom so we are more or less forced to use Sense).

The Update is available now. Just finished it and am extremely happy that HTC has fixed the problem of not being able to access the menu key when an inbound call comes into the phone while the screen is locked. The older Sense version on the EVO 4G allowed this to be done so that you could send a quick text message to the person calling you, instead of answering their call. This came in handy when I was on the phone and received another call, so that I could easily setup a canned text of "Thank you for calling, I am on the phone or busy right now, I will call you back as soon as I can" or something similar. Now I can enjoy my 3D even more!

Edit: I could have swore this worked for me right after the update, but I cannot get it to work again. Bummer

I did notice the update as being available this morning when I checked, but I did not update as i want to wait as i am going to root and wan to make sure it does not effect that possibility, but I will keep reading this thread on feedback of the updates, so keep it coming boys when you notice things were fixed and post them.

Are you saying that you continue to get that popup even after you go into your text settings and turn off the Sent Notification check box?

I use Handsent as my default text program, so I have no Stock Message notifications setup, this means I am not familar with your issue?

No offense, but I believe that's what I said. Perhaps I should have worded it more clearly:

DO NOT ACCEPT THIS OTA IF YOU ARE ROOTED OR PLAN TO ROOT UNTIL IT HAS BEEN VERIFIED TO NOT BREAK THE CURRENT ROOT EXPLOIT.

Just got it...... Installing now..... Gulp..

Noticed that phone now wakes up from sleep mode when you hang up the bluetooth. I had missed this feature. Good visual indication that the call actually ended.
