Help Evo 3D Software Update Coming August 23rd (rolling out now)

Are you sure this updates it to 2.3.4? I'm doing a reset first so I start with a clean slate for the update otherwise I could have it installed already and check.

Anyway, It is HTC's phone. They can enable or disable any Google feature they want before they send it out to the end user. Unfortunately in situations like this we are at the mercy of HTC's discretion (kinda like how in my opinion we should all at least get the option of running vanilla Android if we want to, but HTC takes away that freedom so we are more or less forced to use Sense).

Yup, definitely 2.3.4

Those who have updated - would appreciate is way lots if one of you would be so kind to share your bootloader revision.

Settings, Power, uncheck fastboot, power down. Power up while holding volume down button.

Nothing dangerous or destructive will happen - it just gets you to a low level menu with the bootloader revision at the top.

Volume buttons navigate up/down in menu, tap on power to select choice (reboot or power down to leave the confusion there - whichever is presented that you'd like next).

Thanks in advance!! :)

The reset will remove the 4-pack of updates you had previously for Watch, etc.

Re-check for software updates after all is said and done, in case you need to grab those again - they may have included those in this update - but - I'm rooted, so can't know.

Swype is now at version 3.21.87.28626
Anyone who hasn't already done the update...care to share the old Swype version number?

2.50.72.21318

~~~~~
Settings, About phone, Software information, More -
Old Baseband = 0.97.10.0350
Old PRI (not L) Version = 1.15_003
New ones are.... ?? :) (please)
Baseband is radio revision.
~~~~~

HBOOT of 1.50 is not supported by current rooting method.

Accepting this update means root is closed to you until either an update to root comes - or HTC provides the bootloader unlock.

Are you saying that you continue to get that popup even after you go into your text settings and turn off the Sent Notification check box?

I use Handsent as my default text program, so I have no Stock Message notifications setup, this means I am not familar with your issue?

I don't get a pop up. What happens is if I check an incoming message sometimes it will still show as unchecked when I go into the actual messaging app even though I've read the message. Also when I send a message whomever I sent the message to will have a green bubble with the number count of sent messages as if I hadn't read an incoming message. The sent message notifciation is unchecked.

After the update and initial boot, my phone locked up. I had to pull the battery. Here is what I saw next.

Remember!

This is a major update.

Typical major updates in Android will often leave cache areas stale, dirty, and tangled.

This can inhibit proper operation of update features -- and can even lead to the appearance of old things that were working to be broken now.

For best results, save as much as possible (consider MyBackup Pro, for example), and perform a factory data reset.

If in doubt, ok to wait - but at the first sign of issues, best to give that a go.

Since July 2010, I have never updated without doing a factory data reset.

Others on the forum will attest that this is the way to go.

Not an HTC issue, not a Sprint issue - an Android-wide issue.

~~~~~
At the heart of Android is a thing called the Dalvik Virtual Machine. It's what your apps run under. And it has its own cache. And updates tend to never clear that out.
That's the main issue.
Rooters know to always clear this on rom updates. ;)
Factory data reset is your way to get it done properly if not rooted.
K I Googled the screen capture, no software needed, thanks figured it out, I still did not update so I was not sure it could be done without root. Also the fact that they are offering the uninstalling of more apps tells me they are really trying to get the people not to root and give them more options for there phone
I see that now that I installed it. ;)
I'm guessing they rolled it all into one update since those are not popping up and HTCWatch is functioning without them. Problem is that now I cannot watch the movie without it trying to force me to set up a HTCWatch account (I used to be able to press the on screen menu key and see the video listed then press it and it would play; now it kicks right to a log in screen - I'm not going to sign up just for this movie and in the future I don't plan to buy digital copies of any media ever).
No update for speaker, green tint on camera/camcorder or battery not fully charging to 100%, anyone get any better signal quality updates on there end? -
So what was the point of this update? :rolleyes:
I'm seeing better signal quality (from 1 bar to 3 bars). But it could just be coincidental or placebo effect. I live in an area where it fluctuates or I tower hop. Haven't placed a call yet to test actual quality.
