Root Original evo (6/4) and 2.3 rooted (cyan, fresh, etc) woes :(

So i've been using Fresh 3.x for a LONG TIME. I've been on 3.3.5 for maybe 4 or 5 months now. Everything works VERY well.. just no wireless N and 4g speeds and battery life are poor.. and of course, no 2.3 goodies and benchmarks are 20 to 30% slower.

So, I tried Cyanogenmod 7.0.3. Bluetooth wont work with my eclipse car head unit (cd 5030). Or it works, but I have to re-pair the devices every time. That won't work.

So I tried fresh 4.2 (his newest). I couldn't even get it to install. All it did was boot loop after installing using Clockworkmod 2.5 to install it. Boo. I tried both upgrading and complete wipes. Same result - boot loop.

So now i'm back to fresh 3.3.5. I'm wondering if maybe its my evo. Its an original, got it on launch day 6/4/2010 so its out of warranty. Anyone else experience similar issues?

Finally: Is there a 2.3 rom that has good bluetooth support that I could try? Working bluetooth is probably like #2 on my list of important working features.

Thanks in advance everyone!

first of all going from sense to aosp really requires a full wipe and like do it 3x and use the vr superwipe as well. second you might want try and switch recoveries to amon ra 2.3. it is a much better recovery and it wipes better then clockwork mod does.

you can get the vr superwipe and how to use it in the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/395962-guide-rooting-gingerbread-revolutionary.html sticky as well as a guide on how to switch recoveries.

edit: i think that gingerbread for sense might have changed the bluetooth stack. some people have problems connecting to their car's head unit. you can always make a nandroid bacup and try mikg2.45 and see.

I followed your suggestions however NONE of them worked thus far. I installed amon ra 2.3, used superwipe (which wipes 3x automatically) and tried to install fresh 4.2. Still in bootloop.

So i'm back to where I was but with amon ra 2.3 as my recovery instead of clockworkmod 2.5. I'll try the mikg2.45 and see how that rom goes. At worst i'll just nandroid back to fresh 3.3.5

Well, I downloaded and attempted to install MikG 2.45. Also boot loop! I'm wondering if i'm not doing somethign correctly. I have not reformatted my SD card, just wiped with factory reset and then super wipe. I then did Install from sdcard using the mikg 2.45 rom. It installed ok but then boot loops after I reboot it. Is there a step I'm missing here? Am I missing a temp partition or something of that nature? Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 is the only 2.3 rom I could get installed so far. Thoughts?

ok that is your problem you are not wiping correctly. you need to wipe dalvik cache, cache and data. flash the superwipe then flash the rom.

edit also going to and from sense to aosp you really need to wipe well. do a wipe three times then the superwipe then flash your rom.

Gotcha. So "factory reset" doesn't wipe the dalvik cache, apparently? Just went through the steps, installing mikg 2.45 now after wiping dalvik cache, cache, data then flashing super wipe. Will update with results..

EDIT: Finished installing, still bootlooping.

So, this is what I've done (using amon 2.3 recovery):

1. Wipe dalvik cache
2. Wipe cache
3. Wipe data
4. Flashed superwipe
5. Flashed mikg 2.45 successfully
6. Rebooted --> boot loop of white "htc evo 4g" screen.

Final edit: I forgot to add I am coming from fresh 3.3.5 which is sense, not aosp. Cyano was a couple of flashes ago, went back to fresh 3.3.5 yesterday.

now when you say bootloop, do you mean that it goes from the white screen
to the bootanimation to the white screen again over and over?

No, it just goes to the "htc evo 4g" white screen, then screen goes blank and reboots back to white htc evo 4g screen. I've let it do it repeat up to 10 or maybe 20 times to ensure this wasn't just the normal way of things.

ok lets try something different. we are going to update you to gingerbread officially (well sort of. you will still be rooted)
1.download this file:MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
2.transfer it to the root of your card (not in any folder)
3.power off then press and hold power+vol down
4.select yes to update
5.and reboot

now this is the sprint lover's rom. it will update your radios and flash the rom for you. once that is up. then try and flash mikg2.45. this is just a thought.

the other thought is to flash the updated radio combos and then try mikg2.45. make sure that you make a nandroid backup with your wmax keys backed up.

ok its downloading. This will probably be my last try at this. I dont know what the problem is but i'd rather just use fresh 3.3.5 until my next phone if its going to be this much of a pain in the ass. I appreciate everyone's help though.

I am newly rooted on my EVO running CM7 with tiamait kernel <sp?> And blue tooth is on top of my list too. It connects flawlessly to my JVC aftermarket head unit in my 2005 Chevy Silverado. Streams mp3's and phone functions as well. I did all the wiping that ocnbrze talked about and am running amon RA.
