What Temp is a good temp?

mine runs about 74-76 when asleep and I don't have a temp reading for stock. But when I overclocked I started watching temps. If memory serves me (and it does less and less these days) at 800 mhz with heavy surfing/gaming it would run 92-95 and at 1 ghz it would run 92-97. I read somewhere (and you know if you read it on the internet it must be true!!) that max temp on this chip is 140. I've also seen posts where people hit 102-103 with a stock droid while gaming/surfing or charging.

I did check and the Droid manual says to keep the phone below 113F. I'm sure the lawyers made sure there was plenty of fudge factor built into that recommendtion to keep it well below the point at which damage would occur.

I wonder whats the deal with mine. I'm OCd at 800 and from barely using it its at 44 according to sensor list. Which concerns me cause that would make it 111F. Unless I'm not reading sensor list correctly. Anyone?

You might want to go to the phones settings and check battery usage to see if you have something running the background that is using a lot of power. The only number I've ever seen that was that high was a guy that was using GPS Nav for an hour or so, charging the battery and running pandora.

I would like to say I have one of the rooted 1.1ghz droids and i actually got up to 114.6F playing that Parallel Kingdom game or whatever that is like an MMO for android. Since it uses 3g constantly. It took me about a half hour to reach that temp. Phone was pretty hot near the ear piece :).

So i uninstalled that game. Normally at 1.1ghz my phone runs around 86-90F. Reading on Aldiko keeps it there or maybe up to 92. If i do websurfing and other games i've seen 100F. Nothing over 100F yet except that one game. Game sucked IMO anyways so not a huge loss :)

Phone works great though. Have yet to test it out on a long 2 hour phone conversation. We'll see what it gets to then.

Thank you for the response. yeah, I check to see whats running the background and theres nothing unusual. I had someone check to see if I'm imagining things about the temp. I set it to 800 and within 5 minutes it was waaaay warmer than when it was set to 550. I've OCd before with bugless beast and did not have that issue at all. I wonder if I have a bad copy of the OC imgage. I dont see an increase in speed at all but it just warms up like crazy. I'll have to try something different.

im running constantly around 90 to 100 and my ambient temperature is usually around seventy. im not overclocked and in a little concerned. does anyone think this sounds normal?

I don't think it's very far off.

On another board someone tested their phone under some fairly heavy use at I think it was 1 ghz and it maxed out at (Darn, I can't remember the exact numbers) about 111F. He reclocked it to 550 mhz and ran the same set of programs for the same time period and got 105 or 6. So, up near 100 is not too high. The problem is that most of us that overclocked only started looking at temps seriously after we had overclocked, not before. In the Droid manual and other Motorola documents the max temp is listed as 113F. So you are well below that. And you should be ok if you decide to oc. But be aware that there are differences from one chip to the next. That's why some people can run at 1.1 ghz and be stable and others can't. So good luck.
