Root Custom boot animation

Can some1 give me a link to custom boot animations and possibly how to do it thanks

there a bunch of boot animations that you can try over on xda: EVO 4G Themes and Apps - xda-developers

the trick is to find where each roms hides the bootanimation file. you will need es file manager or root explorer. in es you need to set permissions to read and write to the system partitions. you can do this in the menu/settings/scroll down to root explorer. i like root explorer app better, but it is not free. i like it because you can do a search on the system partitions to find where the bootanimation file is at. i have only seen it named either hTC_bootanimation.zip or bootanimation.zip. your bootanimation that you want needs to be named exactly one of those two. you will know what to name it when you find it on your phone. basically all you are gonna do is rename the old boot animation (i just place a 1 in front of the name) with the new (renamed) one.

so here are the steps:
0.make a nandroid backup of course or not up to you.
1.transfer the file over to the card and copy it using es or root explorer.
2.use es or root explorer to find the bootanimtion file.
3.once located note how the file is named.
4.rename it by adding a 1 to the name
5.paste your bootanimation and rename it exactly how the original was.
6.next reboot and see if it worked.

now there are some that are in PC36IMG files that you can do in hboot.

i believe for sound you need to go here:system/customize/resource and then name the file android_audio.mp3. just paste it anywhere in the resource folder. should work.

you have to to the menu settings and scrolled down ot the root explorer box check it. it gives you permission to read and write onto the system partitions.

im using root explorer with mikg rom 2.42

at the top of root explorer it should say mount as r/w or r/o. it needs to be r/w which means that you can read and write to the system partitions. vs r/o means read only and you can only look but not make any changes to the system partitions.

also make sure that root explorer has su permission as well. it should say it everytime you launch the app.

ya it does have root permission and ill double check that i restored my nandroid and gonna try it again .. when i rename it does it need to be exactly the same as the original or have that 1 infront of the name?

no do not take off the end. this is not like the PC36IMG files. leave the extensions on.

still didnt work....same exact black screen....

went to: system/bin - found file bootanimation renamed it to 1bootanimation

went back out to the sdcard, copied the new bootanimation.zip and pasted it into the bin folder.....didnt have to rename because it was already called bootanimation.zip

turned phone off and back on, and i just get the white htc evo 4g screen, then it stays black for about 5 to 10 seconds, then it just goes to my unlock phone screen....

ahhh well.....its all good...i was just curious to see what the different ones looked like...

also, when im in the bin folder, none of the files have extensions on them...that existing bootanimation does not have .zip at the end....didnt know if that has something to do with it?? or if im in the wrong folder or what?...

it needs to be the original name. basically the rom programmed your phone to look for that file to run the bootanimation. if it is named differently then it will not find it and will not run the bootanimation.

also guys some of these files you may have to extract the bootanimation.zip before transferring it to your card. it really depends on how they were compiled.

typically what folder is the file in?? i need to buy root explorer but it will be a few days...i've looked through tons of folders just using ES and cant find it .......

I extracted the file to the desktop just to see what was in it and it gave me two folders and 1 file....android-folder.....loop-folder.....and desc.txt
