I had a HTC Hero for 17 months until it died unexpectedly last month. I upgraded to the Galaxy. I am with Cellular South BTW.
I had the Galaxy for a couple weeks and everything seemed fine. I upgraded to 2.2 firmware and it seemed weird things started happening after that. First the phone wouldn't show up when I plugged it into my laptop. Then I would take photos and some would save and some wouldn't. The I started getting the USB connected notice after it was unplugged and even when it was plugged into the wall adapter. That would happen randomly. I would have to take out the battery and even after I plugged it back in and restarted I'd still be getting the USB connected note. I tried every trick I could find. Eventually it would stop for a while after restarting enough times. Then when I tried to restart it would give a battery empty icon and wouldn't start unless it was plugged in, even if the battery was full. It would also say it was still charging after it was unplugged.
So I took it back last week. I had the phone just over 30 days. The manager who helped me in the store didn't even question the return. He exchanged it with no problems. I asked if they were getting other complaints and he said about 20 a day. Another person had been there before me getting the USB connected error.
So now I've had the new one exactly 5 days. Already it has frozen about 4 times and shut off completely once while it was plugged into my computer. Last night it froze during the night so my alarm did not go off this morning and it drained a fully charged battery.
So what gives here? Can the phone really be that bad? When it works I love it. The display and ability to use it as an MP3/video player is great.
I know 4 other people who have one also and they all have some type of glitch. One person's calendar won't work. Another's will start vibrating like he's typing a message when the phone is not in use. Another's turns off when she takes a photo.
Did Samsung not put enough into proper R&D and testing before they released this phone? Can the issues I'm having be software based? Is 2.2 firmware the cause of all these issues? Will 2.3 make things better?
I'm about to return a phone that is having issues a 5 day device definitely shouldn't be having. So what do I do here?
